CROWDFUNDING NEWS – It’s mosquito season in the United States. Those little buggers sting, making you itch in the best case, and passing along diseases in the worst case. You can douse yourself in smelly bug dope, but sometimes, they still sneak through. Hey, it’s 2025, and it’s time to do serious battle – with laser beams!

Photon Matrix is currently funding on Indiegogo for what they describe as the World’s First Portable Mosquito Air Defense System –
Detecting mosquitoes with LiDAR and eliminating them with lasers.

The device is said to be effective in eliminating a wide variety of mosquitoes and pests. It uses AI to identify their specific flight speeds and patterns, ignoring faster beneficial insects like bees and butterflies.

Here are the specs for the main unit.

It comes with a fixed mounting bracket.photonmatrix pewpew 3

There is also an optional rotating base.

It will be available in basic and pro editions and can be powered by wall power or a power bank. They both have a 90-degree scan angle. The basic edition scans up to 3 meters and is effective in up to 7 square meters. The pro edition scans up to 6 meters and is effective in up to 28 square meters. It is silent, so it would be perfect for a bedroom. I’d prefer if it could optionally make a pew-pew sound. 🙂

They claim that their AI can properly identify the desired target within 0.003 seconds and fire the laser, eliminating it. Because identification requires specific size and movement parameters, it is safe around other beneficial insects as well as people and pets.

Here’s a video of their working prototype in action.

They are funding right now on Indiegogo until around August 12, 2025. Perks start around $500 for the basic edition and $630 for the pro model. The optional rotating base and power banks are also available. Rewards are expected to ship in October 2025. Let’s face it, it isn’t cheap, but lasers to kill mosquitoes? Priceless!
