REVIEW – OLIGHT makes some of my favorite flashlights, but did you know that they also make some nice pocket EDC gear too? They sent me their Otacle D1 hex bit driver to check out. It’s small, but they say good things come in small packages, so let’s take a look to see if that’s true in this case.

Design and features
The OLIGHT Otacle D1 is available in three different finishes, from aluminum to titanium, and the brushed cracked brass version that was sent to me. It has a nice weight to it.Â
The handle is four-sided, so it won’t roll away when you place it on a flat surface. One end has a magnetic bit holder.
The opposite end has two holes. One is for a lanyard (included), and the other is a second bit holder for when you need extra torque.
The OLIGHT Otacle D1 has storage for 4 bits in the handle.Â
The bits stack two per side and are held in place with magnets.Â
The bits are easily inserted and removed from the main driver end of the tool, and the magnet is strong enough that the bit doesn’t easily fall out when you turn the tool upside down to use it.
The other bit holder on the opposite end provides some extra torque for stubborn screws.
Also included with the OLIGHT Otacle D1 is a one-sided graphite-tipped bit.Â
People often refer to this type of tip as an everlasting pencil because it can write like an ordinary leaded pencil without ever needing to be sharpened. You can see in the image above that I wrote on paper with this tip. Yes, it writes, but it’s not very dark on certain types of paper, like the Tomoe River paper in my Hobonichi Techo journal. But on the plus side, it doesn’t smudge if you rub your finger over it or the heel of your hand if you’re a leftie like me.
Final thoughts
There isn’t a whole lot more to say about the Oracle D1 bit driver other than it’s well-made and easy to use. I guess the only thing I can say is that you’ll need to be careful when you try to remove a bit, as it is easy to dump them all out at once and drop them. But other than that, it’s a nice little bit driver that works great for small tightening and untightening tasks around the house. My last bit of advice is to save some money and buy the aluminum version which is only $19.99.
