NEWS – Have you ever daydreamed about having a folding ruler multi-tool? Me neither, but now that I know one exists, I am definitely here for it. Meet the Prule, a titanium multifunctional EDC folding ruler that is currently seeking funding on Kickstarter.

The Prule is made of GR5 titanium, making it tough, lightweight, and corrosion-resistant. But what sets the Prule apart is its clever design which allows it to fold up small enough to fit in your pocket and unfold into a full 7.87 inch (20 cm) ruler.  It’s not just a ruler though, it’s also a protractor, a craft knife and a window breaker. Not sure why 99.9% of people need a window breaker though… I wish it had a built-in pen/pencil instead.

The Prule isn’t just functional – it’s a conversation starter. Its sleek titanium design and clever engineering are sure to catch the eye of fellow EDC fans. It’s the kind of tool that makes people ask, “Where did you get that?”

The Prule campaign ends on 12/31/24 and they have already met their funding goal of $3,000. You can pre-order a Prule starting at $69. After the Prule campaign ends, rewards are estimated to start shipping in April 2025. Visit their Kickstarter page for all the details.

  2. If you want to go old school look at boxwood rulers. These are rulers that fold up. Some have other features like calipers or are marked for telling rope size. Ebay is a good source.

  3. My complaint is entirely towards this wanna-be tool. Not the article author.

In fact, it is the very same complaint that instantly comes to mind often lately when finding so many new “multi tools” online. They are severely lacking utility. So many of them, especially this one, have no imagination in their design, so much wasted space/edges where now “tools” could have been engineered into it but were not.

News flash to everyone: a multi tool is supposed to do a LOT MORE than what 80% of them on the market do. The king of multi tools is loaded far beyond pliers, as are other similar brands doing the same thing. And so also does the famous red knife brand. Those succeed. Yet these “new multi tools” have a weak blade, screwdriver or two, a hex wrench hole, and one more tool if you’re lucky. Those are pointless paperweights. But THIS is merely a ruler that folds! They need to add 3 more tools on each end that fold out. Yet somehow people foolishly buy substandard products.

I just bought one that has 20 tools, not including the fact I can swap out bits and will have another 40 tools that way. And I’m buying add ons of 1) a volt meter 2) a flashlight 3) an extra bit storage holder that’s part of the unit, barely there 4) an extra swappable hacksaw blade holder 5) tritium glowing knife open assists (instead of thumbnail use only).
Those all fit WITHIN the unit, or attach right onto its outer surface, barely adding to its silhouette. That is a real tool.

And yes, like this tool, it has a ruler on both edges as well. Checkmate.
