REVIEW – I typically don’t need to charge my phone while I’m at my desk. However, occasionally I have found the need/desire to top off my phone battery, but I wouldn’t say I like using a cable. When the Nomad Base Station Mini review offer came along, I thought it would be a great time to acquire one of these magical devices for my desk.

The Nomad Base Station Mini is a wireless charging base for Qi-enabled devices.

Design and features
The Nomad Base Station Mini impressed me from the moment I opened the box. It was much heavier than I imagined it should weigh. However, after thinking about it, it makes sense because of its magnetic MagSafe alignment capability.
The padded leather charging surface looks elegant and provides a soft surface to set your phone on. The built-in magnets automatically align your phone. The alignment was very subtle through my phone case but did work. When not using a case, the alignment was much more noticeable. Large rubber feet on the bottom help keep the Base Station Mini right where you want it.
The included 6 ft (1.5m) cloth-covered cable was very flexible, unlike some of the 3rd party cables I’ve purchased in the past, which makes routing the cable much more manageable and is something I like about this charger.
The Nomad Base Station Mini is capable of 10W wireless power output when using a 20W AC adapter and 15W wireless power output when using a 30W AC Adapter. However, iPhone is limited by Apple to charge at 7.5W on third-party wireless chargers.
A charging LED indicates when the Nomad Base Station Mini is charging. An ambient light sensor automatically dims it when you turn the lights down. I really appreciate this feature, as I prefer to be able to look across the room and see that it’s charging.
What I like
- Quality of construction
- Feels well built
- USB-C power input
- Charging LED indicator
What needs to be improved
- Nothing I can think of
Final thoughts
I found the Nomad Base Station Mini to be a high-quality product that does exactly what it should and does it well. From the moment I pulled it out of the box, I was impressed. I’m sure it will be a permanent fixture on my desk for years to come.
