Track your family’s temperature readings with the Kinsa Smart Thermometer

The Kinsa Smart Thermometer is a smartphone connected digital thermometer that is compatible with a variety of iOS and Android devices (see compatibility info). The name “Kinsa” comes from the words Kinder, meaning child, and Kin, meaning family. The thermometer is thin and flexible for comfort and plugs into the headphone jack of the mobile device. As the temperature is being recorded, bubbles float around on the display as a means of keeping the child occupied and calm. The Kinsa isn’t just for kids though, it can be used to track your entire family’s temperature readings and illness history. They plan to add features to the app that will be able to tap into local health data to let you know if certain illnesses are going around in your area. The Kinsa Smart Thermometer is priced at $24.99 from Kinsa.

I own one of these, works well. The disappointing and surprising part is that it doesn’t also work with an iPad. You’d think it would. The iOS app installs on the ipad, but as of this writing the Kinsa will not work at all when plugged into the iPad’s headphone jack.

@O-Qua do you have the same iOS version on both? You might check the Kinsa compatibility page to see if that iPad version is listed as being compatible.

    Hi Julie,

Oh yeah, iOS 7 on both iPhone and iPads. When you start the app on the iPad, a notice comes up that the Kinsa is not supported on the iPads. Only supported on iPhone. Perhaps in the future they will be.

I have owned one of this too, and I always take it everywhere I go. But last month, the thermometer was no longer working and I don’t know why. This is such a useful thermometer and as of now, I’m looking for its new version.
