  1. Gadgeteer Comment Policy - Please read before commenting
  2. I work for myself. The word “vacation” isn’t in my vocabulary. Therefore I have no idea what a summer vacation is.

However, I do spend many weekends in the cool of Madison Square Garden watching the NY Liberty lose basketball games. 🙁

  3. I haven’t had a vacation in a long time… but I think we might actually get one this year, and we want to go to Corpus Christi and hang out on the beach. Or maybe go camping in a state park.

  4. I love to spend time in Alpena, MI in the summer. It’s right on the lake but it’s not as touristy as some of cities on the West side of the state like Traverse City.

  5. I love spending time in the back yard with the family…nothing like spending time at your own pool with 4 and 5 years.

  6. I really enjoy spending a week long vacation in Hilton Head SC , particularly the sea pines region !

  7. I love to go camping and visiting the middle of nowhere to be amongst nature. My wife and daughter on the other hand prefer the beach, playgrounds, and playgrounds near the beach.

  8. My favorite summer trip was my trip to Rome. Though, that was a long time ago and my dollars don’t stretch that far anymore. Now I will say my yearly trip to the BWCA.

  9. My favorite vacation spot is upon a Royal Caribbean Cruise Line ship to any Eastern Caribbean Island. This is where i can enjoy relaxing and have fairly easy access to all things from my wheelchair. The staff is from many foreign lands with great personalities and pleased to help me enjoy my stay.

  10. My favorite place to spend my summer vacation is in my backyard, first tending to my garden, followed by nurturing a beer or two while lounging in a hammock reading a book.

  11. Once upon a time, before we had a toddler and could afford such things, our favorite vacation spot was St. John, USVI

  12. Waimanalo Beach Park and Bellows Beach, on the windward (east) side of Oahu in Hawaii. They have beautiful iron-wood trees fronting a 20 to 30-yard deep beach, with waves you can boogy-board without fins. Just stand on the sandy sea floor and jump out in front of a wave – instant body board surfing.

Look north and you see the Twin Mokes (Mokulua) islands. To the south are Rabbit Island and Makapu’u Point. Look back and you see the seemingly sheer Ko’olau mountains. Look all around – you can actually see the beach (unlike Waikiki, it’s not covered with people). Breath taking. Seriously – take a look at “waimanalo beach” in Google Images – you’ll see what I mean.

  13. I don’t get paid vacation, but try to take a few weekends to go camping each summer and boy are those nice!

  14. Can you say ROAD TRIP?
Love to pack up with my beloved, point the vehicle in a direction and go see what we can find, no particular destination in mind, just follow our noses and see what we can discover.

  15. The coast of Maine anywhere near Acadia is lovely, especially in late August or September, especially after Labor Day. The weather is perfect for a rental near the shore with kayaks, bicycles, and plenty of lobster.

  16. I love to camp at Kirk Creek Campgrounds 40 minutes south of Big Sur and 4 hours south of San Francisco. Nothing better than to sleep to the sound of the waves crashing below and smelling the water from the ocean.

    Etta

  17. My wife and used to make a trip to the coast every summer and spend a week in our favorite condo. Now that we have kids the tradition has become so meaningful to all of us that it’s the time of year we can unwind and leave work, school and anything else to focus simply on family.

  18. I love spending a summer vacation at the beach..anywhere. I’d love to get away to some Caribbean Island but even an instate beach and boardwalk setting is great.

  19. I love going to Park City Utah. Went there a couple of years ago with my family for a baseball tournament and can’t wait to go back.

  20. My favorite vacation spot is South Lake Tahoe. There is so much do, the beach, casinos, food. Fun Fun Fun.

  21. I would have to say that my favourite place for vacation is somewhere new. I love always experiencing something new and learning about that culture, foods, likes/dislikes, etc.

  22. Favorite vacation is anywhere away from home or work that is on or near the beach, lake or beautiful forest! I need time away from a busy world! 🙂

  23. My favorite place to vacation is anywhere family is. Riding 4 wheelers in Colorado wilderness is one of my favorite places.

  24. My favorite place to spend the summer is Hokkaido, Japan. So many beautiful things to see, including a hot spring waterfall.

  25. Six Flags New England
ride the rides play the games with the kids and then off to the water park to cool of before starting all over again.

  26. My favorite vacation spot is San Francisco and all the beautiful spots surrounding this most beautiful area of the country!

  27. I’m retired and don’t get a vacation. However I traveled to Spain last year. I could go back there again. Rome would be another choice.

  28. edward christie

I am an avid and daily reader of the blog and also have made several (may I add not inexpensive) purchases based upon your thorough reviews.

    Bravo!

    Regards,

    Ed 🙂

  29. Since I work in Tourism and live in Prince Edward Island, Canada, it would be just wrong of me to tell suggest there is any better place to take a vacation!

Come to PEI for vacation, but stay for the party this summer!

  30. Garrett Verikas

My favorite vacation place is a nice beach spot on Jamaica. A second I’d love to go is Italy.

  31. I’d have to say I’m always drawn to the Oregon Coast and all the hiking trails and views… This is obviously after I hit Powell’s to stock up on books!
Of course living in Colorado, every weekend is a mini-vacation.

  32. My favorite vacation spot is where so ever there are mountains (plus my loved ones :)) w/a lake near by so that I can Kayak to my hearts content.

  33. My favorite place to attend summer vacation is somewhere cool like the mountains. We get plenty of heat here in San Antonio. Go Spurs Go!

  34. Montauk, NY is the most beautiful place in the world with wild waves, beach air and fabulous views. If I ever came into money, I would build a home there on a cliff overlooking the majesty.

  35. Anywhere that includes a beach. We love to travel to St.Pete Beach, FL to visit family and the beaches. And Myrtle Beach, SC is another favorite. Also, we are headed to Ocracoke Island, NC this July.

  36. I just got back from a cruise this past week and I have to say that St. Thomas was a great place to be. Even just laying out on the deck of the cruise reading on my Kindle was a great use of my time!

  37. Mostly stay-cations for us. However, we love to go to our local zoo when we need to get out of the house.

  38. We are going to St. Augustine this summer for a wedding but I love any place where I can relax and enjoy not being at work.

  39. My favorite place to spend my summer vacation is along the northern-most shore of Lake Michigan. I was born and raised in the Upper Peninsula (Manistique) and us Yoopers all love the big Lakes. It is, quite simply, in our blood. 🙂

  40. Cordell Johnson

Every year my family of four & I just get in the car and drive. We let the kids pick. Whoever has the turn will get to choose the final destination but along the way everyone gets to pick a spot for us to stop at and visit. All picks must go w/ something the kids learned about in school the previous year. This has been real fun b/c we have one just getting out of middle school, one going into second and one going into kindergarten. During the trip our navigator duties rotate and we have some great apps that let us know what is around us. My fav is the Grand Canyon, one kid likes the Wharf in SF, another loves the White House, last one just loves to navigate. The Wifey is fond of the hotel stays. All in all we have great summers.

  41. my favourite summer vacation spot is not far from where I live – Lake Superior Provincial Park or Pukaskwa National Park -both on the north shore of the big lake.

  42. I don’t do a vacation but I do get away for a couple of weekends going to a few different Nascar tracks.

  43. I love going to Chattanooga, TN. Small town, downtown is walkable, lots of nature, and it’s in the mountains, so not as hot as Memphis, TN. 🙂

  44. Michael Mehsling

Love to go to a beach, but will visit the local Farmer’s Market or flea market in the area. Looking at the stuff people sell tells you a lot about the area. Very interesting people to talk to.

  45. Favorite place to spend the summer: anywhere and everywhere. Travelling is the best thing to do in the summer.

  46. My fam loves Orange Beach….so much so that we are celebrating mo-in-laws big 80 and taking her there with us! Fun and sun.

  47. Seashore Campsites in Cape May, NJ….the best of both worlds…camping and Cape May/Wildwood less than 20 minutes away!!!

  48. I have a warm spot in my heart for Wildwood Crest & Cape May, NJ. They sit at the southernmost tip of NJ, at the Delaware Bay. Wildwood has the widest beaches in NJ and I’ve spent many happy times there. Much of it still has a circa-1950’s charm and architecture. Going there makes me feel like a kid again, and that’s priceless.

Thanks for holding this giveaway; I’ve enjoyed reading all the comments.

  49. Patrick LaFollette

When I was younger, it was definitely weeks of summer camp. Now, with a family, it’s probably trips to the lake for cruising on my grandmother’s pontoon boat.

  50. Boy Scout summer camp is the best way I can find to spend my vacation. Helping my son and the other Scouts grow and learn is amazing.

  53. My favorite place on Earth is in the Yosemite Valley. By far the most awe-inspiring time I have ever spent. Vacation is even better when it impacts you even years later.

  54. My favorite place to spend the summer is back-country Alaska. Nothing beats roaming around the mountain trails in AK! 😀

  55. Michael Bingham

At the family cabin, on Lake Superior in Northern Minnesota. There’s hiking, trail running, fishing, sea kayaking, spending amazing time with family and (occasionally) relaxing and watching the waves and beautiful scenery.

  56. Our favourite place for summer vacation is Hamilton Island in Queensland Australia, it is part of the Whitsunday islands. Has the greatest beaches, most relaxing and secluded sailing spots and the Great Barrier Reef is only a short boat trip away.

  57. I would LOVE to go to FL for summer vacation, but as long as I have my husband and my son anywhere (including our staycation) is fine with ME!

  58. I have to say your newsletter y links are amazing. Thank you! Thank you! My favorite place to vacation is the Seattle area because of the city itself; but LOVE the WA coast. There is a great variety of beaches y activities.
But the truth be told anywhere with my love and anywhere in my head. Show me a picture, y I’m “literally” there. The gadgets you bring into my life would only enhance the experience.

When the weather favours us there is no better place to be outside – when the weather falls our with us we just stay in! Clonakilty, Schull, Bantry or anywhere – take your pic.

  69. kristen mcclary

  70. Didn’t even have to think, sunny miami, spending all day on the beach, and dipping the sea, then enjoying the culture by day! Yes please!

  71. I love to spend my summer in Madras, India! Aside from visiting my beautiful family (and the other half in Bangalore), the city has afforded me much pleasure. I can never get enough of the food, culture, and people. Mosquitoes and blazing heat are not nearly enough to overshadow Madras’ (or Chennai’s, if you must) simple beauty. The speeding autorickshaws, the ever-multiplying movie posters, the tea stalls at every corner… I don’t know… It’s just great!

  72. One of my favorite places in the world is Mont Saint-Michel, in Normandy, France. I have such fond memories of visiting it as a child. Absolutely beautiful place and unique. See entry below for more information and pictures:
