The Christofle Galet from LaCie is a silver plated 4GB flash drive that is designed to make your favorite geek swoon. It definitely looks snazzy. It comes with a lanyard to put it on your keychain or even wear around your neck. But at $130, I think I’d rather have a Kindle 3 or something more useful. What about you? What are you going to get your favorite techy for Valentine’s day?

For $130, I expect at least a 64GB version. Plus the “extra wide” design will cover the USB ports next to it. I suggest using the $130 to buy a $10 4GB flash drive and a $120 necklace for that special someone.
The current price of silver is about $25 per ounce. This item is silver plate, not solid silver so the cost of the silver in the item is maybe $1, at most. You can but a 4 GIG flash drive for only a few bucks these days. There does not appear to me much craftsmanship in the appearance of the item.
Based on this information, I would estimate that they are making at least $100 profit on each one they sell.
