Let’s play Mystery Gadget!
Tom Feledy sent me an email asking if I could help him figure
out the identity of someTHING that he found:
“I found this thing in the across the street from the SF Hall of Justice. It’s grey plastic (not yellow – that’s just the light in my living room). It rattles
when you shake it, as if there’s something metallic inside. The
button on one side seems fixed in position. It doesn’t move at all
when you push on it. There’s a suspicious square hole at one end,
but nothing is visible inside. It could be a security tag for a
department store, but then why is the shape so ergonomic? (Note the
tab for thumb and forefinger, on the side opposite the “button.” I
can’t figure out what this thing is. Can you help?”
I didn’t have a clue what this might be, so thought I would post it here to see if one of our readers might be able to solve the mystery…
UPDATE 04/24/06
The security tag guess was right. Thanks to everyone that sent emails with links showing this gadget:

Maybe we should make the Mystery Gadget a new feature on the site. What do you think?
