REVIEW – Earlier this year, I was able to review an excellent ebike from Jasion, and since then, I’m sold on the advantages of “e-travel”. When the NAVEE XT5 Pro Off-Road E-Scooter came up for review, I wondered how different (or similar) the experience would be riding it. So if you’re interested in electric scooters and how they compare with electric bikes, read on!

Design and features
The NAVEE XT5 Pro Off-Road E-Scooter has a futuristic look to it with angle cuts and exposed screws, and a dark grey, black, and red color way.

Admittedly, I wasn’t sure what to expect when putting the NAVEE XT5 Pro Off-Road E-Scooter together, but it certainly was bigger and beefier than I imagined. The scooter weighs a little over 66 pounds. It’s not a huge amount of weight, especially when folded, and the handlebar/steering column makes a great carrying handle, but it’s still noticeable when I need to lift this into the bed of my truck or over the bumper to put in my car. Speaking of, I needed to fold down the seat to fit the NAVEE XT5 Pro Off-Road E-Scooter in the back of our Subaru Crosstrek. And when in the back of my Ford Maverick, I couldn’t close the tri-fold hard tonneau cover without pinching one of the brake levers, triggering the brake light to come on. Just something to be aware of…it’s not a small scooter.

But because the NAVEE XT5 Pro Off-Road E-Scooter is not small and it is heavier, it leans into the fact that it can support more payload…er, weight and is extremely durable. Having brake lights, as well as a front 9W auto-sensing headlight, turn signals, and ambient running lights, all point to a well-thought-out purpose for this electric scooter. The dual suspension, advanced braking, powerful motor, and feature set help make this one of the most capable electric scooters available.

While out riding with my wife, her on the e-bike, and me on the e-scooter, I was able to keep up with her easily and was able to go on the same pathways as she did.
Something to note: the handlebar height cannot be adjusted. When standing on the NAVEE XT5 Pro Off-Road E-Scooter, the handlebars are about 46 inches high. At 6’1, I noticed they were high, but comfortable for me. If you skew on the shorter range, you may want to consider how high the handlebars come up.
Assembly, Installation, Setup
Giant box aside, assembling the NAVEE XT5 Pro Off-Road E-Scooter was easy. After unpacking all the padding, it’s really about putting the handlebars in place and tightening 6 screws. After that, just charge the battery and it’s ready to ride!

There is the NAVEE app (available for both iOS and Android). You’ll need to install the app to set up the Find My feature (currently only available for Apple users, but Google Find My Device support is coming soon via OTA update), adjust the lighting preferences, speed settings, amount other settings.

Performance
A few disclaimers to get out of the way before diving into performance:
- I’ve never ridden an electric scooter, not even the popular LIME scooter in cities.
- Balance has never been one of my strong suits.
- I’m a little older and more substantial than most of the target audience for the NAVEE XT5 Pro Off-Road E-Scooter.
- I’m in the desert and during my review period, temperatures were between 85ºF and 110ºF.
Ok, having gotten that out of the way, the NAVEE XT5 Pro Off-Road E-Scooter is a blast to ride! Although at first, I was very hesitant because of my lack of experience and minor balance issues. But that did not last long! Soon, I was taking full advantage of the speed and the off-road capabilities.

Go Modes
The NAVEE XT5 Pro Off-Road E-Scooter has 4 modes:
- Walk Mode: 3 mph for walk assist (or very slow riding)
- Drive Mode: Up to 12 mph
- Sport Mode: Up to 31 mph (must be allowed through the app)
- Boost Mode: Fastest acceleration

Braking
The NAVEE XT5 Pro Off-Road E-Scooter claims a “triple-brake system”, where there are front & rear 130mm disk brakes, and the third system is the EABS Smart Braking feature. NAVEE claims that the EABS can
shorten braking distance by 6.3m* at 25 km/h.
I can say the brakes work REALLY well on the NAVEE XT5 Pro Off-Road E-Scooter!
Suspension
With dual suspension, the NAVEE XT5 Pro Off-Road E-Scooter rides very smoothly, especially on the road. Minor bumps and roadway imperfections are barely noticeable. And I can say the suspension does help with off-road travel, but it’s still pretty jarring, at least on the substrate I was on. I think it may be in part due to the high PSI in the tires. I imagine, like when “airing down” tires on off-road vehicles, the NAVEE XT5 Pro Off-Road E-Scooter would benefit as well.

Battery/Power
With a claimed max range of 47 miles and a max speed of 31 mph, the NAVEE XT5 Pro Off-Road E-Scooter is extra to say the least! I’m not sure who would ride for 47 miles straight, but it does ease anxiety range, and you may not need to charge up as frequently. And going 31 mph is thrilling, but I only felt comfortable going that speed in short bursts on perfectly flat and smooth pathways. I most used the DRIVE mode and tooled around, cruising at 12-13 mph. But when I had an incline to go up, I would switch to SPORT mode to keep up my speed.

Final thoughts
I wanted to touch on some of the differences and similarities of riding the NAVEE XT5 Pro Off-Road E-Scooter to an e-Bike (the Jasion Thunder).
Similarities
- the top speed
- the charging time
- the heft (both the e-bike and e-scooter are hefty in their respective genres)
- the ease of use
- safety features (lights, disc brakes)
Differences
- The range (with the optional external battery for the NAVEE XT5 Pro Off-Road E-Scooter, it should be close.
- the weight (the NAVEE XT5 Pro Off-Road E-Scooter is a little over 20 lbs lighter)
- carrying accessories (e-bike can have baskets, panniers, racks, but on a scooter, you’re limited to a wearable bag or backpack)
- Stability (inherently, the e-bike is more stable)
So which one is “better”? Neither…or both…or it depends. It depends on the purpose. For example, there are some great rides through Red Rock Canyon or the Valley of Fire. I would not hesitate to use the e-bike for these longer rides. I also would choose an e-bike if I needed to carry stuff. It’s so much nicer and more comfortable to put my bag on a rack or in a basket, rather than having to carry it on my back.

I see the advantage of an e-scooter being its portability and ease of use. For example, I use the NAVEE XT5 Pro Off-Road E-Scooter to go out and shoot wildlife near me. My housing community backs up to some trails, and jumping on the NAVEE XT5 Pro Off-Road E-Scooter with my camera on a sling or backpack is so convenient. I did the same with the e-bike, but when I wanted to stop and take a picture, it was a lot more involved than just popping off the NAVEE XT5 Pro Off-Road E-Scooter, swinging my camera around to snap some pictures. I can see using e-scooters for shorter trips as well.
Like with most scenarios, it’s about choosing the right tool for the right job. The NAVEE XT5 Pro Off-Road E-Scooter can be an extremely fun and useful tool to use!

What I like about the NAVEE XT5 Pro Offroad E-Scooter
- The build quality and supported payload
- The range (large battery)
- The safety features (lights, indicators, EABS, TCS)
- Find My + AutoLock
- Crusie Control
What needs to be improved?
- The handlebars are not height-adjustable
