REVIEW – Germs and bacteria are everywhere. They are even on one thing that can kill them – a soap dispenser. We find hands-free soap dispensers in many public restrooms, but I’ve only recently had one in my home. It’s the Simplehuman rechargeable liquid soap dispenser. Let’s check it out.
What is it?
The Simplehuman rechargeable liquid soap dispenser is a hands-free soap dispenser from the same company that brought us the hands-free voice-controlled trashcan that I reviewed over a year ago.

Design and features
The cylinder shaped Simplehuman rechargeable liquid soap dispenser is available in 5 finishes including brushed, polished, rose gold, white, and brass.
The dispenser stands 6.8 inches tall with a 2.8 inch wide base.
Protruding from the top is a soap dispensing spigot.
On the back is a power button and the charging port.
The SimpleHuman soap dispenser has a built-in battery that charges using the included magnetic USB charging cable. A full charge will keep the soap dispenser powered for up to 3 months.
While the battery is charging, a blue LED on the front of the dispenser will glow.
To begin using the SimpleHuman soap dispenser, you’ll need to charge it first and then fill it with liquid soap or hand sanitizer. The dispenser has a capacity of 9 ounces and one pouch of liquid soap is included with the purchase.
The top of the soap dispenser is easily removed, revealing a large funnel-shaped opening that makes it really simple to fill the dispenser without any messy drips or spills.
I like the look of the soap dispenser and the fact that it’s battery-powered. But how well does it work? Check out the quick video below.
See it in action
If you watch the video closely, you’ll see that if you hold your hand high – up close to the spout, that you receive less soap than if you put your hand lower. This is by design so that you can customize how much soap you want per squirt 🙂
I wanted to mention that the free pouch of soap that is included with the purchase has a strong fragrance. It’s not bad, but if you’re sensitive to fragrances, you might not like it. Jeanne thinks it smells like an aftershave lotion. It doesn’t bother me.
I’ll update the review to talk about how well the dispenser performs with other soaps after we use up all the current soap and I refill it with generic liquid soap.

Final thoughts
The Simplehuman rechargeable liquid soap dispenser is not something I can’t live without, but now that I’ve been using one for the past few weeks, I’m spoiled and now I don’t want to live without one. Simplehuman’s products are just that – simple. But they also look nice and work well. I’m a fan.

Hey Julie, do you know if the unit still works if you leave the charging cable attached? Also, have you noticed any drips or mess on the countertop after you remove your hand? Thanks!
Aaron, yes, it can still be used while it’s charging. As for the drips/mess on the countertop. I had positioned the dispenser so that the spout was hanging over/into the sink. I’ve just now moved it so it’s over the counter and will keep an eye on it and report back in a couple of days if I notice any drips.

Update… I’ve kept an eye on the soap dispenser for the last few days and I’m not seeing any drips on the counter below the dispenser and no drips are hanging off the spout.

They had these 2/$80 at Costco. Love the dispenser (we now have 8), but the soap is terrible. Stinks, and is WAAY too thick. Use any other (thinner) brand, and it works perfectly.
After reading this review, I purchased mine at Bed Bath and Beyond with a 20% off coupon. I did have some problems with mine for the first few days. It would power off if I hadn’t used it for several hours which defeated the purpose of it being touchless. I had chicken on my hands, came over to use it, and had to touch the power button. I contacted the company via text through their website and they provided a fairly complicated solution. It did work, however. It no longer powers down between uses.
Anna, I’ve not experienced that issue. Do you mind sharing the solution here?
Here’s the text that I received from Simphuman:
Let’s proceed with a quick reset to resolve the issue.
1. Press and hold the power button down for 5 seconds.
2. Wipe the sensor lens clean. We recommend using rubbing alcohol and a micro fiber cloth to do so (step 2 does not apply if it is a brand new pump).
3. Press the power button for 1 second to turn the unit on.
4. Completely cover the sensor window and quickly press the power button 3 times (within 1 second). Note that this will make the pump run continuously until you remove your finger from the sensor window.

I have 2 and neither has held a charge for more than a week. One only stays charged a couple of days. Are they really supposed to last for 3 months?
Norma, I’m still using mine and yes, it holds a charge for a really long time. I want to buy a 2nd one.

Hi Julie. Can you tell me if it has an indicator when the soap needs refilling?
It does not have a low soap indicator.
I’ve had 2 of these and had to send one back when it stopped working. FYI I bought that one through Amazon. The second one was bought through SH and had no issues until today. Totally dead. None of their solutions worked. I hate to fork out $ every 3-4 years for a new one! I checked the cord/charging block with the other one and it works so definitely the unit. Mine is ST1043
Laura, my original one is still working fine and I bought another one that I’ve had for awhile and it’s been working fine too. I love them.

I have one of the reachable soap dispensers from simple-human that was given to my husband and I for our anniversary. when we opened the box last November there was no charging cord in the box. How can we get one so the dispenser can work.
