Razer Tactical Gaming Backpack-1

If you are a serious PC gamer then you have probably heard of Razer products. If you are not a gamer, Razer is the maker of high-end PC gaming systems,  gaming peripherals and accessories for not only PC games, but also for console gaming systems. Having a gaming laptop is great for portability, but what happens when you need to transport that system and all its peripherals to a competition, or just to visit a friend? Razer has thought of that with their Razer Tactical Gaming Backpack.

To be honest here, I am not the PC gamer I use to be. My fingers don’t work as well and my reflexes are shot, but that does not mean that I cannot appreciate a well-made laptop backpack and that is what the Razer Tactical Gaming Backpack ultimately is. I am no stranger to reviewing laptop backpacks and messenger bags, so I do have a decent frame of reference from which to start. The tech specs for the Razer Tactical Gaming Backpack, as listed on their webpage, are as follows:

  • Made from robust 1680D ballistic nylon
  • Tear- and water-resistant exterior
  • Scratch proof interior
  • Soft padded shoulder straps and back panel
  • Adjustable chest buckle
  • 2 large interior compartments
  • Interior 15” laptop divider and headphone holder
  • Medium-sized front utility pocket with accessories organizer
  • 2 small modular front pockets
  • 2 small side pockets for easy access
  • Velcro modular webbing front
  • Hidden underside pocket compartment with weatherproof bag cover
  • Designed to fit notebooks of up to 17.3” in size
  • Approximate dimensions:
    Weight: 2000grams / 4.41lbs.

    Depth: 190mm / 7.49”

The rear of the Razer Tactical Gaming Backpack has a soft mesh-like covering over some padding to make the backpack a little more comfortable to wear. The straps have the same covering on the inside along with padding for comfort. The straps also have D-rings built into them along with a cross strap that goes across your chest to help keep the shoulder straps in place. At the top, there is a nylon handle to allow you to carry and pick up the pack.

The top of the backpack has a has a cover designed to be secured with adjustable nylon straps and plastic clips. The cover is designed to keep the zippers for the laptop section and cargo section protected from the elements. The top cover also has the Razer logo sewn onto it.

Razer Tactical Gaming Backpack-5

The inside of the top cover has a neon green fabric liner. The top cover hides the laptop pocket zippers and the main cargo compartment zippers. The top cover also helps keep items from falling out of the backpack if the zippers are not completely zipped or if the backpack is turned upside down.

Razer Tactical Gaming Backpack-6

Both the left and right sides of the Razer Tactical Backpack are identical in their configuration. Both have a large pocket with a flap cover that is secured by velcro. Both covers have MOLLE (Modular Lightweight Load-carrying Equipment) type attachment points. Both sides also have a nylon strap setup with plastic buckles to allow you to keep the backpack compressed for carrying and traveling. The side pockets are deep and wide, large enough for a water bottle.

The front of this backpack has a zipper front pocket for tablets and miscellaneous items, two removable Razer patches, and two removable pouches with flap covers. The front also has the MOLLE design to allow you to reconfigure the backpack to your liking as well as add and subtract items designed to be used with MOLLE equipment. As you can see, I have removed one pouch and moved one up higher on the backpack.

Razer Tactical Gaming Backpack-8

The two removable pouches have plenty of room for peripherals such as phones, keys, a mouse or even some earphones. The front of the pocket below the flap has nylon MOLLE attachment points. The flap has a nylon tab to help lift the flap open. The inside of the flap and the pouch have a green lining and Velcro to keep the flap secure. The back of the pouch has two nylon strips with velcro sewn onto it to allow you to secure the pouches to the MOLLE system on the front.

Razer Tactical Gaming Backpack-9

The bottom of the Razer Tactical Gaming Backpack has a zippered compartment that holds a pullout rain cover to protect your pack and its contents. this is a great added feature not found in a lot of backpacks.

Razer Tactical Gaming Backpack-10

The outer front zippered utility pocket is designed to carry a tablet and various accessories such as business and credit cards, USB cables, with a detachable keyring and a dual mesh pocket one open to the top one zippered. The compartment has the same green lining material found throughout the backpack. The tablet section is lined with a microfiber material to help protect your tablet.

Razer Tactical Gaming Backpack-11

The main interior compartment of the Razer Tactical Gaming Backpack has an expandable divider for folders or papers and can be pushed tightly to the front if not needed. The interior has green lining on the front and sides, but on the back it has a black microfiber like material from the top to halfway down. The bottom half of the back is the green material used throughout the backpack. The black microfiber material is designed to allow you to velcro items to the back of the interior compartment. This compartment is large enough to fit a few days worth of clothes and other essentials for those overnight gaming trips.

Razer Tactical Gaming Backpack-12

The backpack comes with a semi-hard shell headphone case. The case is designed to be stuck to the inside of the backpack by velcro. The headphone case is a nice add if you have headphones that will fit the case, but it does take up a bit of space on the interior. If I were to use the case I would probably attach it to the outside of the case using the MOLLE system.

Razer Tactical Gaming Backpack-13

The last zippered compartment of the Razer Tactical Gaming backpack is the laptop compartment. This compartment is designed to hold notebooks with up to a 17.3-inch screen. The design protects your laptop with the outside padding in the rear of the backpack and the interior space in the front. Y0u can see from my 14″ laptop that there is plenty of room for a 17.3″ laptop

Razer Tactical Gaming Backpack-14

As I noted earlier in the review, the backpack has a pullout rain cover to help protect your gear and the pack from the elements. The rain cover feels like it is made of nylon and it has the Razer logo embroidered on it. The cover deploys and packs away easily. Another nice feature of the cover is that it is attached to the backpack with a quick release clip so you won’t easily lose it.

Razer Tactical Gaming Backpack-15

So, whats my bottom line here? I like the Razer Tactical Gaming Backpack. Now as I said before, I am not a big PC gamer anymore, but I do travel a lot. This backpack is sturdy, well constructed and seems like it is almost bullet proof. With lots of storage and configuration options, the Razer Tactical Gaming Backpack would be great in the game room as well as in the great outdoors. From a gamers perspective, this backpack is cool. From a practical users perspective, this backpack is flexible and practical. If I did have one negative thing to say about the Razer Tactical Gaming Backpack, it would be that it is on the heavy side. This is due to the material used to construct it, ballistic grade nylon. The Razor Tactical Gaming Backpack retails for $159.99, available from the Razer or Mobile Edge websites. In closing, I won’t say this backpack is bulletproof, but if you are looking for a well constructed tough, durable backpack for gaming or any other use you should check out the Razer Tactical Gaming Backpack.

  2. You want to bring everything you need that may include your food, water, and first aid supplies, but you also don’t want the backpack to hurt your back. The backpack should be a good balance between comfort and significance. Remember to stuff your bag with enough gear to last you for at least 72 hours or longer if you’re planning to go somewhere else.

  3. I feel like military backpacks are best for hiking, they have so much space in them, I prefer to use military backpacks for hiking. It’s comfortable from my perspective.
