The 14-inch MacBook Pro and 24-inch iMac are getting M6 chips, Wi-Fi 7 and Bluetooth 6, with U.S. preorders opening October 28 and availability beginning November 6. The MacBook Pro starts at $1,999 with 16GB of memory and a 1TB SSD. The iMac starts at $1,499 with the same amount of memory, a 256GB SSD and its desktop display built in.

The notebook gives you a 12-core CPU and 12-core GPU from the start. The iMac comes in two versions, and the $200 step up buys more than extra processing cores: it also adds ports and support for a second external screen.

The MacBook Pro starts with a 1TB SSD

The M6 MacBook Pro has two more CPU cores and two more GPU cores than the M5 version. Its GPU includes Neural Accelerators, alongside a dual 16-core Neural Engine for AI workloads. Memory can be configured to 24GB or 32GB, and storage goes up to 4TB.

The 16GB model runs at 153GB/s; the 24GB and 32GB configurations reach 170GB/s. If you’re buying for large creative projects or local AI models, compare the memory configuration as well as the chip name.

The 14.2-inch Liquid Retina XDR display supports adaptive refresh rates up to 120Hz and peak HDR brightness of 1,600 nits. Optional nano-texture glass reduces reflections. There’s no touchscreen in this M6 announcement; Touch ID is the keyboard’s fingerprint sensor, not touch input on the display. A 12MP Center Stage camera, six speakers and three microphones cover video calls without requiring a separate webcam or speaker setup.

At a desk, three Thunderbolt 4 ports, HDMI, an SDXC card slot and MagSafe charging leave several ways to connect storage, a camera card and monitors. The M6 model supports up to two external displays while keeping its built-in screen active.

Battery ratings are up to 24 hours of video streaming or 16 hours of wireless web use. Fast charging to up to 50% in 30 minutes requires a compatible 96W-or-higher power source; the included adapter is 70W. Runtime varies by use and configuration. The notebook comes in space black or silver.

The iMac’s $200 upgrade changes the whole desk setup

The M6 iMac puts the computer, 4.5K display, 12MP Center Stage camera and six-speaker system into one enclosure. Its seven colors are blue, green, pink, yellow, purple, orange and silver.

The $1,499 model has a 10-core CPU, 10-core GPU and two Thunderbolt 4-capable USB-C ports. It supports one external display at up to 6K and can be configured with up to 24GB of memory and a 1TB SSD. A Magic Keyboard and Magic Mouse are included.

For $1,699, you get a 12-core CPU, 12-core GPU and four Thunderbolt 4 ports. That model can drive two external 6K displays alongside its built-in screen, giving you more space for an editing timeline, reference material or separate work apps. It also includes a Magic Keyboard with Touch ID.

The higher-tier iMac opens up 32GB memory, 2TB storage and nano-texture glass as paid configuration options. Both starting configurations still have 16GB of memory and a 256GB SSD, so the extra $200 buys processing and connectivity rather than more storage. For a large photo or video library, budget for a larger SSD or external storage.

The display is marketed as 24 inches, with an actual diagonal measurement of 23.5 inches, 4480-by-2520 resolution and 500-nit brightness. That gives the iMac a larger built-in workspace than the notebook, while the MacBook Pro can leave the desk with you.

Preorders open October 28

Both models were announced October 27. Preorders open through Apple in 35 countries and regions, including the U.S., with customer deliveries and store availability beginning November 6.

Eligible education buyers get U.S. starting prices of $1,899 for the M6 MacBook Pro, $1,449 for the 10-core iMac and $1,599 for the 12-core iMac.
