Instead, the company rolled out six major product announcements across three days and three cities, calling the whole thing a “special Apple experience.” Press releases landed in waves between March 2 and March 4 from New York, London, and Shanghai, and by the time the dust settled, Apple had refreshed nearly every product category it touches without ever holding a traditional event.

The $599 laptop that changes the math

The biggest surprise wasn’t a spec bump or a design refresh. It was an entirely new product line. The MacBook Neo is a $599 laptop built around the A18 Pro chip, the same silicon that powered last year’s iPhone 16 Pro, now repurposed for a 13-inch notebook with an 8GB memory configuration and a 2408 by 1506 display.

It ships in four colors: silver, indigo, blush, and citrus. The keyboard is Apple’s latest Magic Keyboard layout, and the webcam runs at 1080p. Where things get interesting is in the trade-offs. There’s no Thunderbolt, just two USB-C ports (one USB 3, one USB 2). No MagSafe charging. Touch ID only comes on the 512GB model, and side-firing speakers replace the six-speaker systems found in higher-end MacBooks.

At $599, none of that matters the way it normally would. This is Apple’s direct answer to Chromebooks and budget Windows laptops, and it’s the cheapest Mac notebook the company has ever made. Pre-orders opened March 4 with availability starting March 11.

The iPhone 17e landed at the same $599 price point as the MacBook Neo, which made for an interesting parallel. Inside, it runs Apple’s new A19 chip built on a 3nm process, paired with the C1X modem that Apple says delivers up to twice the cellular speeds of the C1 found in the iPhone 16e.

The camera setup is simpler than the Pro models but still capable. A single 48MP Fusion sensor handles primary duties and pulls off 2x optical-quality telephoto through the same sensor crop technique Apple introduced on the iPhone 14 Pro. The display is a 6.1-inch Super Retina XDR panel protected by Ceramic Shield 2, which Apple claims is three times more scratch-resistant than the previous generation.

It supports MagSafe and Qi2 wireless charging at 15W, carries an IP68 rating, and gets Face ID along with the Action button. It ships with iOS 26, which introduces Apple’s new Liquid Glass design language across the entire interface. Colors are black, white, and soft pink, with pre-orders starting March 4 and general availability on March 11.

Apple didn’t stop at the Neo. The MacBook Air got its M5 upgrade, jumping to a 512GB base storage configuration (double the M4 model) with options stretching up to 4TB. Apple says the internal SSD runs twice as fast as before, and wireless connectivity moves to Wi-Fi 7 and Bluetooth 6. Pricing starts at $1,099 for the 13-inch and $1,299 for the 15-inch, a $100 increase over the M4 versions.

The MacBook Pro received more significant changes under the hood. The M5 Pro and M5 Max chips use what Apple calls Fusion Architecture, bonding two 3nm dies together to create an 18-core CPU with six super cores and 12 performance cores optimized for power-efficient multithreaded workloads. Wi-Fi 7 comes standard here as well. The 14-inch MacBook Pro starts at $2,199 and the 16-inch at $2,699.

iPad Air picks up the M4 and a new wireless chip

The iPad Air refresh was straightforward but meaningful. The M4 chip brings up to 30 percent faster performance compared to the M3 predecessor, and Apple’s new N1 wireless chip adds Wi-Fi 7, Bluetooth 6, and Thread support. Cellular models get the same C1X modem found in the iPhone 17e.

The 11-inch model starts at $599 and the 13-inch at $799, holding steady against previous generation pricing. Touch ID remains the biometric method here, keeping the Air clearly positioned below the Face ID-equipped Pro models.

Studio Display finally gets company

Apple’s original Studio Display launched in 2022 and sat alone for four years. Now it has a sibling. Both the refreshed Studio Display and the new Studio Display XDR share 27-inch 5K panels at 5120 by 2880 resolution, upgraded 12MP Center Stage cameras, six-speaker audio with spatial audio support, and a pair each of Thunderbolt 5 and USB-C ports.

The standard Studio Display costs $1,599. The XDR version adds Mini LED backlighting with 2,304 local dimming zones, adaptive sync from 47 to 120Hz (which requires an M4 or newer Mac), and 140W host charging through the Thunderbolt connection. That one starts at $3,299.

What the whole week adds up to

Six products across three days is aggressive by any company’s standards, and Apple managed it without a single keynote slide. The strategy seems deliberate. Instead of competing for attention inside a 90-minute presentation, each product got its own moment and its own news cycle.
