REVIEW – For a long time, my wife and I had concerns about robot vacuum cleaners — no way will we use one. It wasn’t that they didn’t perform as they should or that they were inferior. Our reluctance stemmed from privacy concerns, or the lack of it. Any “robot” device is connected to a home’s network for mapping and wireless control. After a few years of our stubbornness wearing down, we went for it, and I reviewed the Noesis Florio vacuum, a robot vacuum that also mops the floor. We love it. However, progress quickly marches on, which brings us to the Mova Z60 Ultra Roller Complete. This independent beast of a wet/dry vacuum seriously ups the ante.

Design and features

Let’s begin by saying that, in our home, no robot vacuum can completely replace human effort. The robot can be a huge time-saver, but unless you live in an unobstructed cube, there will be missed areas requiring further attention. Our home cleaning routine consists of hand vacuuming (the Queen’s job) and hand wet mopping (my job) every Saturday. We then use the robot vacuum once or twice during the week, primarily because of Biscuit, our shedding dog. It’s a system that works for us. YMMV.

Unlike other wet/dry vacuums, the Z60 uses traditional rollers rather than circular pads (mopping). The vacuum roller is tangle-free, and the mopping roller is similar to conventional vacuum mops.

A base station holds both clean and dirty water tanks. The Base station also recharges the Z60 while cleaning the rollers after use. The mopping roller also self-cleans as it mops, so it doesn’t spread dirty water.

When cleaning the roller after mopping, the base station heats water to 176°F. That temperature should disinfect and kill bacteria. There’s also UV Sterilization that removes up to 99.99% of bacteria. That’s a lot of dead germs. Cleaning has three temp choices: Room/113°F/140°C) for different cleaning needs.

When vacuuming with mopping, the Z60 will lift the mop and deploy a shield to block moisture. This keeps any carpets or rugs dry and clean. This works well in our home, with tile flooring and a large rug in our living room.

The mopping function uses what Mova calls “HydroForce Real-Time Mop Washing”.This uses 12 nozzles that continually rinse the roller during mopping with clean water, resulting in cleaner passes.

Both the roller mop and vacuum side brush will extend along the baseboards and into corners as they approach a wall. This allows the Z60 to clean areas that other robot wet/dry vacs usually miss. Does it clean as well as my wife and I do manually? No, it doesn’t, but that’s to be expected. As I said, robot vacs like the Z60 are supplemental machines that make life easier. The Z60 excels at that.

MOVA Z60 13

Suction on the Z60 is rated at 28,000Pa. This is quite strong, especially for a robot vacuum. Mova calls this Ultra Suction with Anti-Tangle DuoBrush. The setup features dual rollers to prevent hair tangling. This is especially good for pet owners, like us.

The Z60 has a feature called “StepMaster 2.0 with LiftPro Chassis”. This confusingly named feature can lift the Z60 to 3.15 inches to clear high objects. Plus, the low height allows the Z60 to easily clean under furniture and beds—areas that normal humans pretend don’t exist when vacuuming.

The base station for the Z60 is much more than just a charging station. It automatically empties dirty water from the Z60 into the dirty water tank and then refills it with clean water. Note that it’s imperative to change the two refill tanks after each vacuuming/mopping session. The base station will also hot-water clean the mopping roller and hot-air dry it. This can prevent bacteria and odors from forming.

The Mova app (iOS and Android) is used to program settings for the Z60. Many settings are possible. Once the house is mapped, individual rooms can be targeted, scheduled, or even ignored. Different functions can be set for other days. For instance, Mondays for vacuuming, Wednesdays for mopping, whatever you want. All of this can become overwhelming, but since any setting can be modified at any time, it’s best to take your time and learn how the Z60 works. I know I’m still learning.

MOVA Z60 7

Once the initial settings have been decided, a large “Enter” button brings you into a map of your home showing each room with pre-assigned numbers. The Z60 will clean in the order of the numbers beginning with “1”. The rooms can be re-numbered any way you choose.

From there, the “Custom” button opens a window with several options: Vacuum, Mop, Vac & Mop, Mop after Vac, and Custom Room Cleaning. Custom Room Cleaning let’s you set cleaning preferences per room. As I said, all these choices can be a bit much. The Z60 remembers previous selections. I appreciate this, because I’m the type that decides how I want t use the robot vacuum cleaner and then set-and-forget. All I need to decide is whether I want to vacuum or vacuum and mop.

MOVA Z60 3

However, if you want “set-and-forget” on steroids, just let the Z60 do all the thinking. The Z60 has a setting called “CleanGenius”. All you need to do is choose Vac and Mop or Mop after Vac and Deep Cleaning. That’s it. The Z60 then takes over. It will determine cleaning Intensity by automatically adjusting suction power and water flow based on the room type and the floor’s dirtiness. If necessary, rooms will be split into smaller, more manageable areas and prioritized for high-traffic areas with more passes. The Z60 will adjust mop-washing frequency by sending the robot back to the base station as often as necessary, depending on how dirty the mop roller becomes. As cool as this feature is, I prefer my own custom setting because I don’t always choose mopping alongside vacuuming.

The Z60 can be operated using voice commands via Amazon’s Alexa, Apple’s Siri or Google’s Assistant. This is where my wife and I draw the line. We do not use any voice assistance in our home—period. They are listening.

MOVA Z60 26

Did anyone say cameras? The Z60 uses Direct Time-of-Flight (DToF) navigation to map the house. No, it has nothing to do with flying. DToF uses an invisible infrared laser that reflects off objects (furniture, walls, etc.) to measure distance. Plus, the Z60 uses a dual-laser 3D Structured Light + RGB AI + Side-Edge Laser + LED. I don’t know what it means either, but it “sees” what we can’t.

There is also what Mova calls Onboard Binocular AI. It identifies 200+ obstacles—wiring, toys, shoes, and pet waste—a nightmare for owners of earlier robot vacuums.

Finally, the Z60 has a real built-in camera. You can actually watch the house being cleaned from the vacuum’s point of view – in real time! The Z60 can also take photos and save video to your smartphone. But wait, that’s not all.

Do you have pets? The Z60 has specific pet settings that can recognize dry pet food and cat litter, and adjust suction accordingly. It can use pet-odor fluid (yes, there’s a small tank for that) to remove stains. A pet’s favorite area can be programmed for extra cleaning. The Z60 can also be on pet watch, capturing GIFs of pets as it cleans. Our dog is not a fan of the Z60 and either runs away or tries to herd it somewhere else. You can also use the Z60 to spy on your pet and interact with him/her using pre-set sounds, such as Woof, Meow, Footsteps, etc. This is more of a fun gimmick.

Final thoughts

My wife and I have grown to like the Z60. It has now become our daily (weekly) vacuum cleaner. The drawback is that no matter what (especially) robot vacuum you buy, in a short year, it can become a dinosaur replaced by a newer model. I can’t keep up.
