REVIEW – I love ice fishing and spending time outdoors in the winter. The key to enjoying being out in the cold is keeping dry and warm and having the right gear. Having the right gear can make an incredible difference in how long you can safely stay outside, especially in harsh, subzero temperatures. While full winter is still a couple of months away at this point, the opportunity to try out the Savior Heated Ski Gloves (2.0) came up and I had to see if they’re something I’ll add to my winter outdoors kit. Read on to see how they shake out!

Design and features

One of the first outstanding features of these gloves is the soft goatskin leather shell that is very water resistant from my initial testing. It also provides excellent grip on things that is sometimes missing with artificial materials. Adding to that is a comfortable inner liner and a waterproof hipora membrane similar to Gore-Tex that keeps water from entering from one direction but allows moisture to wick out from the other direction. The length on these is quite nice and extends well past my wrists.

Perhaps the biggest selling point of the gloves, fancy materials aside, is the electric heating function powered by a pair of rechargeable lithium polymer batteries. There are three different levels of heat that you can select from, which also corresponds to a duration of heat from 2.5 to 10 hours off of a single charge. The electronic control and button is on the top  and a single button switches from one heat setting to another. The battery level indicator is also on the same display.

A feature that I really like is the included wrist belt for each glove that keeps your gloves from falling on the ground when you take them off to use your hands. Dropping your gloves in a slush puddle because you need to get something out of your pockets is always a downer.

There is even an included wiper for goggles on the left thumb when they get covered by snow. It acts like a little squeegee.

Setup

Setup for these gloves consists of charging the two lithium polymer batteries.

The wall charger has an indicator for each battery and when they turn green you’re ready to go. Left and Right lights correspond to the L and R cables.

Once charged up, you’re ready to throw them in the gloves and fire them up! There is a pocket under each wrist that has a cable inside that you plug in and then tuck the battery away.

There is a companion app for these gloves, which is kind of an odd addition, in my opinion. It connects via Bluetooth and allows you to control the heat settings and also set a timer to turn off after a set amount of time. With other Savior products perhaps it would be handy to have them all linked and controlled together.

Performance

These gloves start heating up to the touch almost immediately after turning them on. The heat on high is very warm and is almost a little uncomfortable, but when you’re talking about using these out in winter weather it could be very useful. Medium heat is comfortable and on low it’s a nice little addition.

Final thoughts

These are pretty fantastic gloves. They certainly aren’t cheap, but if you spend a lot of time outdoors I can definitely see the justification. Again, having good gear can make all of the difference when it comes to spending time outdoors in winter. I have to insert the caveat that I have not been able to use them yet in snow as we are still at least a few weeks away from snow flying. I definitely recommend so far, but if that changes I’ll come back and provide an update.

What I like about the Savior Heated Ski Gloves 2.0

  • Great range of motion and excellent grip for a set of thick gloves
  • Heat is immediate and well-spread across the fingers and palm of each hand
  • Good coverage past the wrists

What needs to be improved?

  • Bluetooth seems unnecessary for heated gloves
