REVIEW – Like many children of the 80’s, I have many fond memories of visiting the mall and getting Orange Julius slushies. In high school, 7-Eleven became a frequented hotspot for slushies as well. I haven’t had one in years, but the offer to review the Vibofrost slushie machine has renewed my passion for slushies (and it doesn’t hurt that it’s great at making frozen concoctions for adult beverages as well!).

Design and features
The Vibofrost slushie machine resembles the commercial versions that you see in gas stations and other shops all over the place. A large 2+ liter clear tank sits up top with a dispensing handle on the front.
The exterior of the device is all plastic, but it feels a step above the cheap-feeling plastic appliances that I’ve encountered in the past. It feels and acts similar in build quality to various Ninja brand kitchen appliances that we’ve owned over the years (all of which have held up well, so hopes are high for this Vibofrost machine as well).
Around the back of the machine, you can see ventilation grills and even a cooling fan up near the top.
Both sides of the machine have ventilation as well.
The dispensing handle is nice and large, and the spout cover prevents splatter and mess. It did a great job for all of the various slushie tests we ran during the review period, and even kids can easily dispense from it without issue.
Assembly is very easy, you simply slide the auger over the cooling cylinder on the machine, then slide the clear tank over that.
Locking handles on both sides secure the tank when in use.
A digital display offers controls for slushie type and thickness. With most of the slushies we made the lowest thickness setting worked the best. Anything above that lowest setting made a pretty solid slushie (which is great if that’s what you want), but we preferred the more drinkable mix of liquid and ice that the lowest setting produced.
Performance
We tested all sorts of beverages in the Vibofrost slushie machine including but not limited to fruit juices, soda, hard ciders, and iced/cold-brew coffees. Vibofrost warns against using anything sugar-free (with exceptions for certain sugar-free ingredients like Allulose), so we only tested with sugary sodas. The manual says you can add something like Allulose to sugar-free sodas, but I didn’t want to make those even more sweet-tasting.
The liquid tank holds a minimum of 16 ounces and a maximum of ~66 ounces (2 liters). As the liquid freezes into a slushie, it will expand due to ice and air being mixed in, so you want to make sure not to exceed that maximum line when filling it up. 2 liters was enough for a party of about 10 people to all enjoy a small glass, and you could refill in batches with a freeze time of 10-30 minutes depending on liquid type/volume/starting temperature, so it should be great for just about any home function.
I particularly enjoyed some apple cider slushies on hot July summer nights. There are quite a few recipes in the book for cocktails, and I look forward to future margaritas and pina coladas as well!
So, the Vibofrost slushie machine makes great slushies, but if cleanup is a pain, then I know it’s one of those devices we’ll rarely use (extensive cleanup is a huge deterrent for me when deciding whether or not to use a tool). Luckily, all of the removable pieces (tank/auger/drip tray) are dishwasher safe. In addition, a cleaning cycle gets the cooling cylinder pretty clean so then it’s just an easy wipe job with a towel afterwards.
If you don’t run the cleaning cycle like I forgot to do the first time, it will be a bit more of a pain to get the cylinder clean, but after a cleaning cycle it really just needs a wipe with a wet cloth to finish.
Final thoughts
We loved using the Vibofrost slushie machine for random slushies every few days. Kids are now constantly begging for root beer slushies (add a 1/2 cup of half-and-half to most of a 2 liter of root beer for a root beer float slushie!), and I’ve pulled out the slushie machine just to freeze a single can of cider or a bit of juice for myself. We left the machine running for hours during a party, and it kept the slushie mixture at exactly the preferred consistency the whole time, allowing for hours of on-demand slushies. I look forward to many slushie nights to come!
What I like about the Vibofrost slushie machine
- Very easy to use
- Can make single servings or more than 2 liters in a single batch
What needs to be improved?
- Can’t use sugar-free liquids without adding specific sugar substitutes (making them overly sweet tasting)
- Wish the child-lock feature was a toggle rather than always on
