BNCF 10 Tablet 1

REVIEW – I’ve been looking for an upgrade to an old Samsung tablet that I’ve had for a while now as it’s starting to get a bit slow and it’s a bit small for what I’d prefer in a tablet. An opportunity to try a brand I haven’t seen before came up and I decided to jump in and see how it holds up to use. On paper the BNCF 10.1 inch Bpad Tablet specs looked pretty good for the price point, so read on to see how it holds up!

Design and features

The default orientation of this tablet is designed for landscape use. This initially threw me off because I haven’t used a tablet much in that orientation before. I am much more used to using a tablet in portrait mode the majority of the time unless I’m watching a movie or doing something that shows better in landscape.

At first it was a bit disconcerting because I normally expect to see the power and volume buttons on the upper right hand corners when I’m holding it in portrait view and instead they are on the lower right corner.

The user-facing camera is also in the top center of the screen when you hold it in landscape mode as well, which also threw me off because it wasn’t where I expected to see it.

Setup

Charge it up and go through the normal Android setup process. Not much difference here from other products.

Full charge from empty took several hours with a fast charger.

Performance

I’ve watched a number of videos on this tablet and the quality is excellent. Sound quality is pretty good and the onboard speakers face down and out when in landscape mode.

Reading and regular use in portrait mode is okay, but my hand keeps expecting to find the power and sound buttons in the same location as other tablets and phones and it’s not there.

Final thoughts

Overall, there are several things I really like about this tablet. The fact that it doesn’t come with a boatload of bloatware and apps that I have to pry out of the system is a big win in my book. The screen looks nice and is responsive. The tablet can also hold up to two SIMs, but I don’t have a separate phone/data plan for my tablets and I use them exclusively on WiFi. It would be nice to be able to shift it into a tablet only mode so that it’s not always looking for a SIM card. I wish that the tablet were in portrait mode by default instead of landscape mode, as I primarily use my tablets for reading and interacting in portrait. If you’re using the tablet more exclusively to watch videos or play games in landscape mode, this is a great feature for you. For me, it’s more annoying than beneficial. I think it’s a good tablet and recommend it, but keep that in mind if you choose to get one.

What I like about the BNCF 10.1 Inch Bpad Tablet

  • Little to no bloatware!
  • Solid and built well
  • Video quality is excellent

What needs to be improved?

  • Needs more accessories. It was difficult to find a case to go along with it
  • I’m still on the fence about the landscape orientation camera and power/volume buttons
