ARTICLE – I’d like to see a show of hands, how many of you get obsessed with the way your desk and office look? By that, I mean, do you like to have everything neat and organized, and you often make small changes to improve the space? That’s me. I tend to fixate on things that I don’t like about my space, and I recently decided to finally do something about one small area in the corner of my office.

Before 2024 update

Last year, I went on a bit of an upgrade spree and updated the area in my office where I do my product photography and video. In the past, I’ve used a shotbox for photos, but I wanted to elevate my unboxing and other video content, so I went all out and bought an Autopole, ring light, PTZ camera, and an OSEE GoStream Deck video switcher.

Everything worked and looked great except for the wires hanging from the Autopole. I ended up wrapping them in a flexible black plastic conduit which you can see in the image above.

This worked just fine, but I hated the look of it. I’ve been living with it for over a year and just recently decided to finally fix the problem by ordering the A+ Electric cable management kit from Amazon.

First, I removed all the equipment and took off the conduit.

Then I opened the A+ Electric kit, which had way more pieces than I would ever need and removed the sections that I would be using. I ordered this kit specifically because the cable tracks can be mounted with screwes or with the adhesive backing, which is what I planned to use. Then I pointed the camera at the wall and recorded the process, which you can watch in the video below.

The whole process, including moving the equipment, installing the track, cleaning the desk, and putting everything back, took less than an hour.

I really like the way it turned out. I think it looks much better. What do you guys think? Let me know in the comments below, and let me know if you think I should paint the cable track blue so it “disappears” into the wall. I don’t mind the white-on-blue look at the moment, but time will tell if it starts to bother me. What’s my next project? It’s finally time to create a Gadgeteer art project with of all my old PDAs!
