Zygnatek Hidden Cam 011

REVIEW – My current philosophy on power banks is that you can never have enough. They’re great for power outages and mobile charging. When I saw that the Zygnatek 4K HD hidden camera was disguised as a power bank and could also charge devices, I knew that I had to try it out.

Design and features

When I choose to do a review, sometimes I choose it based only on what I read in the product listing title. I know, it’s a hit-and-miss method, but it exposes me to products that I might not normally review.

The Zygnatek 4K HD hidden camera was one of those that I did not read much about before receiving the item. I occasionally have the need to record video, and I thought that a battery bank with a camera in it would not only serve two purposes but also come in handy for some covert recording.

The title for the Amazon listing is “4K HD Camera, 64G Video Camcorder with Night Vision, Home Security Camera with Motion Detection, Mini Cam with Gravity Sensor, 10000mAh Power Bank for Indoor Outdoor Nanny Cam” – which is what I read when I decided to accept the review.

The Zygnatek 4K HD hidden camera has a built-in hidden camera in the end. If you get really close and look for it, you can see the camera but unless you’re looking for it, you wouldn’t notice it.

The camera is hidden under the right portion of the end.

The Micro-SD (TF) memory card slot, reset button, and Loop/Motion switch are hidden under a silicone flap so that the device looks and acts like a normal power bank. When the power button is pressed for 5 seconds, the device will begin recording video. When the power button is pressed once during video recording, it will capture a photo.

When recording loop video, there’s an indicator light that goes from blue to light blue, and when recording motion detection video, the indicator will be green.

There is also a night vision mode that is entered by pressing the power button twice. When this occurs, the indicator light will go off.

One of the features of the Zygnatek 4K HD hidden camera is its gravity sensor. The device will automatically flip the video based on its orientation. This means that you can place the display up or down, and the recorded video will be oriented correctly when viewed.

The battery bank portion works like many other battery banks, plug in a device, and it begins charging. The digital display shows the percentage of battery left and goes to sleep after 30 seconds. Pressing the power button once will wake the display. While it is charging, there is no indication of power after the display goes to sleep.

Holding the power button down for 5 seconds begins video recording. While video recording, the display battery level will go to sleep, but the blue recording light will remain lit. This would not look abnormal to someone who doesn’t know the device, and is a nice feature to indicate that you are in fact recording.

I was very disappointed that the unit does not record audio. The only mention of this was on one image in the listing, and nowhere in the item description. I think an audio switch would be a great feature that would enable better use of the device while allowing for legal compliance in certain uses.

The Zygnatek 4K HD hidden camera has two USB-A output ports for charging devices, a Type-C Input port for charging the unit, and a micro-USB port for transferring data. I was also disappointed to find that the Type-C port is only for charging. The unit does include USB-A to Type-C cables, but a lot of items are using Type-C to Type-C cables nowadays.

I also found that the listing wasn’t clear that the video recording is 2K and the photo feature is 4K. The listing also included a photo with a “record” overlay and “4K,” which is deceiving.

I found that the video quality wasn’t very good. It works, but it’s obviously a low-quality capture. There is an option for including a date/time stamp on the video, but it does involve editing the text file on the memory card. That’s where I found another thing about the Zygnatek 4K HD hidden camera that I don’t like. To have an accurate date and time on the video and photo, you must edit the text file on the memory card. It does appear to keep track of the date and time between sessions, though.

Final thoughts

Despite my disappointment with the lack of audio on the videos, and the video resolution and quality not being what I thought they would be, the Zygnatek 4K HD hidden camera will come in handy for certain uses. I think with a few improvements, it could be a really great device.

What I like about Zygnatek 4K HD hidden camera

  • Display Auto Flip

What needs to be improved?

  • Needs to be able to record audio
  • No USB-C output
  • Time stamping of videos could be better
  • The video and photo quality is poor
