REVIEW – There are a plethora of reasons why I am more of a cat person than a dog person. Probably the ultimate number one reason though, is the fact that I don’t have to pick up anything when my cat goes outside… I think we all know what I’m talking about here, but even better is the ability to have a smart cat box that makes clean up even easier. No fuss or smells. Our current cat is ultra fluffy, but the homerunPET Self-Clean Litter Box has a very spacious opening and plenty of internal room for any size cat, or multiple cats in the same household. The litter box is conveniently smart and senses when the cat is nearby, or using the box, and will wait a specified amount of time before cleaning out the deposits. Our pampered kitty is so happy to have a clean box every time, and I’m happy that the cleanup and smells are minimal.

What is it?

The homerunPET Self-Clean Litter Box is the Cadillac of cat litter boxes. It is whisper quiet, and incredibly spacious with the world’s largest capacity chamber. 106-liter of wide open space and a special hill-shaped base to help prevent clumping and sticking to the bottom or sides. It has a great design suitable for many varieties and sizes of cats. If you have a preferred type of kitty litter, this unit comes with two different filter trays. One with large openings, the other with smaller openings. An amazing app is available that is very user-friendly, and intuitive from the homerunPET company. The app shows you how often the cat uses the litter box, how long they were in there, and how often it gets cleaned, or tells you when you need to clean. In addition, you can clean it from your phone! There are a variety of other things the app can also do, however, it is very simple and doesn’t require a genius to figure it out.

There are plenty of safety features that calm a pet lover’s worries. Multiple sensors and anti-pinch bumpers are there to help protect your cat from accidents. There is a small touch screen that has the indicators for when the unit is in use. They have also added a nice instruction sheet that explains each picture, or error code, and how to resolve any problems. It comes with two large filter trays that will work for most varieties of cat litter. The trays are easily accessible and cleanable. Something else amazing is the fact that this litter box has a built-in 4.5 Liter unit to fill with extra litter, and automatically refills the base as needed. There are also instructions on how to slowly transition from a different cat box to this one. There is a warning on the instructions that say not to let a pregnant, nursing cat, or baby kittens use this box. (We made sure to be extra cautious with our cat, and have supervised this initial setup to make sure she is safe.) The homerunPET company really seems to have you and your pets interests at heart.

There is an option to completely empty the entire litter basin to allow for cleaning and a fresh refill. The homerunPET Self-Clean Litter Box is amazingly easy to clean. The barrel itself is washable as well as the trays for the litter and the poop shoot. Each part is removable and designed to be able to clean easily and effectively. There doesn’t seem to be any small nooks and crannies to accumulate gunk and become problem areas. Some of the steps you need to perform before the cleaning dump will happen include removing the anti-pinch bumper door frame, and holding down the button to engage the motor for the release. So even if someone started to push all the buttons on the display screen, you won’t have to worry about damage and waste.

The package comes with everything you need, including different sized disposable bags that you can place in the designated areas. It also came with a roll of masking tape, but I’m not exactly sure what to use that for yet because I haven’t found a need or seen it directly written down in the instructions.

One of the only drawbacks of this amazing litter box is how giant it is. While the size is also a bonus, it does tend to take up a lot of space and needs to be a certain distance away from the wall for its ability to rotate. There are also some breeds, or small kittens, that may need step assistance to be able to get in and out of the opening.

Assembly, installation, and setup

The directions are very clear on how to set up, and the best surfaces for optimal performance. Several pieces of foam or filling will need to be removed before powering on. Disposable garbage bags are included for using in a couple of places that bags should be placed in preparation for the cats deposits, and easy cleanup.

Final thoughts

Anything that makes life easier is a win in my book. This homerunPET Self-Clean Litter Box is worth the cost. It is large enough for households with bigger cats, or multiple cats. The unit is incredibly user friendly, but still has a lock feature that keeps little fingers from causing problems. The homerunPET app is simple and effective. While this homerunPET Self-Clean Litter Box doesn’t solve all pet problems, it does makes the gross ones a lot easier to handle.

Great addition for our new additions! Four baby kitties. It will be a while before these kitties can utilize this fancy litter box.
