Design and features
As I mentioned earlier, I had an upcoming flight and when I saw the JOYROOM MagSafe Airplane Phone Holder up for review, I immediately asked for it. You see, I’m a bit of a gear and tech enthusiast, and I tend to bring way too many gadgets. I have an iPad that I usually use to watch videos and do some writing on the little trays on flights. But here’s the thing: the iPad and stand usually take up all the space, and if I order a beverage or want to put anything else on the tray, there’s just not enough room. The JOYROOM MagSafe Airplane Phone Holder solves this problem by not using the tray at all!
For my recent flight, I decided to watch some content on my iPhone 16 Plus. I connected it to the JOYROOM MagSafe Airplane Phone Holder. I attached the holder to the bracket on the back of the seat in front of me, instead of to the tray. This way, I had a better view of the screen and could easily reach for my phone when I needed it.

- the phone was higher and closer to face level, again easier to see and not a pain in the neck
- the tray was free for drinks, snacks, books, etc
A bonus function what that I could hang my over-the-ear headphones over the stand during take-off and landing or when listening to announcements.
The JOYROOM MagSafe Airplane Phone Holder can be used in a bunch of places. The product listing page shows that you can put it on your airplane seat back, clip it to your luggage handle, or attach it to different shelves. It can also be used on your desktop or even in your car. But, just be careful where and how you mount it in the car. You don’t want it blocking an airbag or any other safety feature. It’s probably best to keep it out of the car.
Assembly, Installation, Setup
The JOYROOM MagSafe Airplane Phone Holder is super compact and folds up tight. It has a strong hinge that can pivot and rotate, so you can point the phone either the back or the front towards you. I used the back of the phone for FaceTime and video calls, and the front for FaceTime and video calls.
The base has a sturdy clamp that you can adjust with a built-in thumb button. It can extend up to 1.5 inches, which is plenty big for attaching to your airplane.
I thought it would just stay in a drawer until my next flight, but I’ve found that I’m using it all over the house and garage!

The JOYROOM MagSafe Airplane Phone Holder is marketed as a holder for airplanes, but I’ve used it all over the house and on trips. It’s a handy way to prop up your phone and use it without touching it. I got a second one for my wife so she can use it too! I’d highly recommend it.
