REVIEW – Think about how many audio products you frequently use. In the past two hours, I used my phone, Brilliant Home Control, three different Alexa products, a car radio, a PC, and a television. Only two, the TV (equipped with a Polk Audio Commander Soundbar) and car radio, had decent fidelity. The rest get a dramatic boost from Edifier’s M60 Multimedia speakers. How are they? Please join me for a closer look, um, listen!

Design and features

I’ve been “out of commission” for the past six weeks, with sparse moments to conquer “to-do” list entries. I was looking forward to a day in the garage cleaning, changing the oil, and making some repairs. Usually, my iPhone or Echo Pop provides a background podcast, news, or tunes while I’m working, so the arrival of Edifier’s M60 Multimedia Speakers couldn’t have been better.

They arrived double-boxed and surrounded with recyclable cardboard.

These small desktop speakers don’t have grilles, so please use caution when unpacking to avoid crushing a speaker dome.

Both feel solid. Also in the box were  1/8-inch stereo, RCA, USB-C input cables, and attractive speaker stands

The M60s are small enough to sit on a desk, dresser, or TV stand.

The stands angle the speakers upwards and keep the rear-facing bass ports from being smothered if placed too close to a wall. Nice touch!

The input ports, speaker, and power connections are on the back of one of the speakers. I appreciate that the power supply is inside the speaker.

The speaker cable is about six feet long and has keyed, four-conductor, Din-style cables on each end. I would have liked to see a mechanism to extend the wires, but I don’t anticipate this being a big deal because Edifier offers longer cables for other models.

The power cable is an IEC320-C7  style.

When I plugged in The M60s, my first surprise was these lovely back backlit controls or power and volume. The vertical line in the power icon changes to blue when in Bluetooth mode (press the power and “-“button simultaneously to enter pairing mode), red for USB, and green for Aux. In Aux and USB modes, the “+” and “-“buttons control the speaker volume, but they don’t sync the control of the connected device.

My phone immediately detected and paired the M60s with a single button press. Since I was working on cars, turning on the ignition would cause the disconnect from the M60s and connect with the vehicle’s Bluetooth. It’s not a problem, but it’s worth noting if you’ll use them near a garage.

I started a playlist of a few dozen songs in multiple genres and had my second surprise of the day – delicious, room-filling sound. I could easily discern piccolos, triangles, tubas, and contra-bass on both ends of the audio spectrum. I played contemporary Christian, classic rock, rap, hip-hop, classical, easy listening, and even holiday music. Everything I threw at the M60s was clear and rich, with fabulous stereo separation; it was impressive for my echoey garage. Outstanding job, Edifier!

I ran several frequency tests and found that Edifier’s specs are very close to my measurements—about 55Hz at the lowest, up to the limit of my hearing of 18kHz. Anything above that is beyond my hearing range (the specs state 40kHz), but maybe I could annoy some of the neighbor’s dogs if I ran more tests with the windows open :-).

If you need to adjust the M60s, the Edifier ConneX app is for you. It has manuals, settings for the button backlights and prompt tones, power, Bluetooth, and a Factory reset.

Equalization is adjustable, too. There are several preprogrammed “sound effects” and customizable attenuation.

I had the volume quite loud while performing tests. My wife was listening in and said they are some of the best-sounding speakers in the house. She likes them so much that she asked me to set them up on the bathroom vanity so she could listen to her music while she braided her hair. Of course, I complied :-)! While writing this, she cranked them up and sang at the top of her lungs, so I may not get them back!

What I like about the Edifier M60 small desktop speakers

  • Compact size
  • Great sound!
  • Simple setup
  • Backlit controls
  • Integrated power supply – no wall-wart! Yay!

What needs to be improved?

  • A longer speaker cord would be great.

Final thoughts

The delightful sound and diminutive size of the Edifier M60 Multimedia Speakers make them a big winner in my book! With a pair of these small speakers, there’s no need to settle for lifeless audio from phones, digital assistants, computers, or TVs. Bass is as rich as chocolate cake, and treble is as crisp as a sunny autumn day. If you want to add room-filling musical deliciousness, The M60s are an outstanding choice! Thank you, Edifier!

I have the edifier Luna eclipse speakers & they also sound great for there size, I’ll be checking out the m60 at some point too. Edifier is one of those companies that put out great sounding speakers without the crazy prices. I really appreciate that.
