REVIEW – A good case keeps your iPad safe in transit and can improve ergonomics and efficiency in use. MAGEASY’s new Facet Folding Folio Case ticks both boxes and their EasyPaper Pro also pulls double duty by protecting your screen and providing a paper like feel when using your Apple Pencil. I was able to give both a whirl and can vouch they both achieve their goals.

What is it?

The Facet Folding Folio Case (say that 5 times fast) is a spin on the standard folio case with an origami style folding cover that keeps your Apple Pencil safe and secure in its charging location. The EasyPaper Pro 2-in-1 is a screen protector with a matte, textured finish that you can feel when using the Apple Pencil for more of a drawing-on-paper feel. It also attaches magnetically which allows for periodic removal unlike a lot of protectors.

What’s included?

These are sold separately, but work great together.

Design and features

The Facet Folding Folio Case has 6 colors to choose from in addition to the iPad specific sizing. (I added the color names for clarity).

The case is a hard polycarbonate with an attached cover that protects the screen. Here’s the inside view.

On the flip side, you can see the metal badge that works with the flap on the far right, and all the relief folds that allows the cover to do its accordion magic.

The camera is well protected and the buttons covered.

The speakers, microphones and charging port all have the necessary clearances.

Assembly, Installation, Setup

I’ll keep this part short. Press your iPad into the case. Done. Clean your screen with the included wipes, remove any remaining dust, then align and install the screen protector (which is made easier due to the magnetic function). Done. Hang onto the storage folder if you need to remove. Easy, right?

Performance

The case works well as expected. The new iPad Pro 11″ is pretty thin and still feels that way after installing this case which is a major bonus. It’s durable and all the buttons are easy to press with good tactile response. The cover can feel a little floppy when opening, but quickly finds a position, whether flat and flipped behind, in the standard triangle-drawing position, or pinch-folded which works equally well in landscape or portrait orientations.

I really appreciate the extra pencil-flap which wraps around a charging Apple Pencil and keeps it pinned to the side of the case where it cannot get knocked lose going in and out of your bag.

The EasyPaper Pro Protector is definitely interesting. It’s one of the easiest protectors I’ve installed (and I’ve installed countless).

The black edges hide the magnetic function that helps it cling to the iPad so easily. As I mentioned in the intro, you can install and remove easily as a result. There is a concession though as it is not optically clear. For me it worked great and I did like the feel with the pencil, but not at the expense of the beautiful crisp display that the M4 iPad has.

I left the protector on for a solid two weeks, and after removing I immediately saw that display’s performance I had been missing that whole time. I can see it being useful if you spend the majority of your time with pencil in hand and really miss paper feel, but…

What I like about MAGEASY Facet Case and EasyPaper Pro 2-in-1

  • Case: fits great and protects your iPad
  • Case: New folding positions are welcome additions, Portrait!
  • Case: Pencil-keeper
  • EasyPaper: Paper-like feel when drawing
  • EasyPaper: Super easy installation

What needs to be improved?

  • Case: cover can be a little floppy between closed and chosen position
  • EasyPaper: Texture and finish definitely affect the screen’s clarity

Final thoughts

The MAGEASY Facet Folio Case is a good performer for the price, keeping your iPad protected and adding functionality without much of a weight penalty. The magnetic flap that keeps your pencil attached and safe is the stand out for me. The EasyPaper Pro Screen protector does what it sets out to but at the expense of losing some of the screen’s clarity that might have been the reason you bought this particular iPad.
