Tozo Golden X1 01 scaled e1717468955131Review: I reviewed the Tozo Open Buds last year and they have been my daily’s since. Design and features

The Tozo Golden X1s are feature packed noise canceling earbuds. You can view the full manual here or the quick start guide here to check out all the functions. The Tozo Golden X1s come with six tips (XS, S, M, L, XL, XXL) to get the perfect fit.

The charging case is small and is charged via USB-C cable and supports wireless charging. When you open the case it tells you the percentage of charge for the case on a numeric LED display and has four bars to indicate each earbud power level. On top of that there’s a light in the front that if over 20% will be white and if under will turn red for at a glace status.

The Tozo Golden X1s pair to each other very quickly. There’s a little dong or chime to indicate they have paired but I usually miss it by the time I get them in and my music is already playing if my music app was still open.

Assembly, installation, and setup

Using the quick start guide, I was able to set them up easily. I already had the Tozo app installed on my phone from using my Tozo Open Buds so after connecting to my phone I opened the app and added the Golden X1s.

Interestingly a hearing test popped up which consisted of the same beeps from a hearing test in an enclosed booth if you have ever done one of those. Afterwards, if you select the Eartune function, the Tozo Golden X1s will compensate audio output based on your specific hearing limitations. I have some hearing loss in the medium to high frequency which I know I have from legit medical hearing tests so it was pretty accurate.

Performance

The Tozo Golden X1 earbuds are certified by TUV Rheinland to reduce noise by 42dB. These are perfect for blocking out the world when you want to. I plan on using these on my next flight for sure. They last 8 hours on a single charge and 32 hours with the charging case.

There are six types of noise cancellation modes. A single touch of the left earbud will quickly switch between active noise cancellation and transparency mode that will enhance outside noises so you can talk to hear everything as if you had super hearing. You can also select Normal Mode in the app to turn noise cancellation off which will give you the longest battery life. The last selected mode stays in effect until changed. There are also 16 types of EQ sound modes so you can customize the sound you want.

You can also use either earbud individually if you prefer. I like that you can customize the touch controls for each side however you are limited to the double click and long press functions for the left bud. A single click of the left bud will switch the noise canceling from Active to Transparency mode and back. It does provide a little gong when it switches but doesn’t give a speech prompt so you might forget which one it is in. However, a triple click will turn ANC off for normal mode, and it will say “ANC off,” which is nice. A single click will put it back in Transparency mode.

Phone calls were clear on both ends and the answer and hang up controls worked flawlessly. The right earbud allows you to customize the click, double click, and long press functions. A triple click is your chosen voice assistant.

Overall I was very impressed by the sound quality. The Golden X1s connect near instantaneously to my phone and when I put them back in the case they automatically disconnect. I found the app very intuitive and easy to use and customize functions.

What I like about the Tozo Golden X1

  • Super small case with wireless charging
  • Great sound with lots of customization

What needs to be improved?

  • Full touch customization so I can make single click for volume and long press for previous/next song

Final thoughts

For $119.99 the Tozo Golden X1s are a great set of noise canceling earbuds. The noise canceling worked extremely well and blocked out the world when I wanted to.  Battery life was excellent and the wireless charging capable case is convenient. The app is very easy to use with tons of customization so overall I am very impressed with the Tozo Golden X1 earbuds so if you are in the market for new ANC earbuds you should definitely check them out.
