NEWS – During one of my daily internet surf sessions for interesting gear, I came upon the 4th Kickstarter campaign from MeTool for the AceStand. It’s an interesting accessory for your smartphone that folds up for easy storage in your pocket, or gear bag.
What is it?
The AceStand is a folding stand for a smartphone or small tablet that doubles as an 11-function multi-tool that you can add to the rest of your daily EDC gear. The AceStand’s functions include:
- Nail puller
- Fire starter
- Box opener
- Phone stand
- Bit driver
- Bit holder
- Mini ruler
- Bottle opener
- Bicycle spoke wrench
- Hex wrench
- Prybar
This tool also has a keychain loop and slots for Tritium vials if you want it to glow in the dark.
Why do I like it?
I like the AceStand mainly for the phone stand and not for the tools it offers because I honestly don’t see myself using any of them except for the mini ruler, prybar, and box opener. But I can see myself using the phone stand if I am out at a library, a restaurant, etc, and want to read or watch content with my phone. More than once, I’ve tried to prop my phone against a glass or something else on the table, only to have it slide down with a loud thwack sound.
Yes, I know there are much cheaper alternatives for a simple phone stand, but I have a thing for chunky titanium multi-tools and gadgets. I don’t think I’m the only one, am I? Let me know your thoughts in the comments below. Would you buy this?
