REVIEW – I am not sure how many of you have dealt with OCD (Obsessive Compulsive Disorder), but I have and do. One of the effects of OCD is insomnia and this is usually caused by my inability to relax my mind so that it stops being so busy. Over the years I have tried many suggested solutions with little and limited success. These Enophones work in a way that suggests that they could be a solution or at least be very helpful. Let’s see!.

The Enophones headset is well-made and very comfortable. The headband is padded and contains 2 built-in sensors. The earpads are also well-padded and have built-in sensors. The controls are on the right side and the audio jack is on the left.

Performance

Right out of the box, the Enophones ooze quality construction, They feel and look well built. Once charged, it was easy to connect to the Bluetooth on my smartphone and then they were ready for use.

Other than the hardware, the functionality of the Enophones is controlled via the app which allows you to select the type of “energy/experience” that you want. The choices are Flow, Focus, Calm, Wind Down, Energy, and Sleep. Once you make a selection, another screen opens and provides a mesmerizing visual experience along with a soothing sound. The sound and visual experience is different for each selection and you can check them out by watching the video below. Here are some screenshots from the app:

Once you stop using the selection, a report is generated that shows a summary of brain-related activity. I honestly do not yet know what to make of the results, but here is a link from the manufacturer that explains the meaning of the measurement criteria and how to interpret the results: https://api-eno.moonshot.la/app/help

Overall, I like the headset in terms of comfort and sound. They are also really nice for just listening to regular music. I like the calming effect of the brain-targeting scenes and for me, Calm, Focus, and Sleep are my favorites. The headset is bulky, so unless you sleep on your back or stomach, they are not ideal for sleeping. The Sleep experience takes me to a drowsy and relaxed state that supports sleep. It would be nice to fall asleep with them on and get the continuous benefit of staying asleep and curing my insomnia, but unfortunately, I have this issue where I cannot fall asleep fully with any sound in my ears. This experience with the Enophones made me even more aware of this, so I have to take the headphones off during my most drowsy state. Unfortunately, taking them off at that moment defeats the benefits since this disrupts my sleepy state. Nevertheless, the Enophones relax me, and the fit, comfort, and noise cancellation are so good that it is a pleasure to use them.
The following video is an overview of the functionality of the Enophones:

What I like

  • The build quality is great
  • They are very comfortable to wear
  • The audio quality is great
  • Their performance is effective

What I’d change

  • Would like a printed manual (To be fair, they are still in the beta phase)
  • The ability to access the data in the app without having to connect the Enophones (The app is also beta)

Final thoughts

I like these Enophones headphones and I will continue to use them for the intended purpose of brain/mind relaxation to not only help with unwinding and focus but also to calm me enough to get into the best mental space to fall asleep. I also love how they sound if I just want to listen to music which is a great plus.

  1. Gadgeteer Comment Policy - Please read before commenting
  2. They do help me to relax, but I cannot sleep with any sound in my ears so I am unable to take full advantage of the features. I also enjoy using them to listen to music and to watch YouTube.

  3. Can you use the audio feedback for calm without the visual feedback and in the background while you use other apps?
