Levoit Humidifier 1

REVIEW – Wisconsin winters are notoriously cold with wind chills below zero and enough snow to bury a polar bear. With the lack of moisture in the air, your skin becomes dry and chapped. One of the best ways to help alleviate dry cracked skin in the winter is to increase the humidity. Levoit classic 200 ultrasonic cool mist humidifier does the job perfectly with a large water reservoir and quiet operation it’s a must for any cold winter night.

Design and Features

The water tank is super easy to fill with a large twist open cap.

The top of the humidifier comes off to expose the mist outlet tube and a built-in handle to carry the tank. It also provides a flat surface to set the tank down on while refilling.

The humidifier has three operating levels: low, medium, and high. Touching the power symbol on the front once turns it on to the lowest setting touching it again increases the level. If the humidifier is already on, one touch will show the current status while a second touch will change the level. Each level is indicated by light color, blue is low, orange is medium, and purple is high. A blinking red light indicates that the tank is empty. The indicator light will turn off after 30 seconds which I love since I normally run the humidifier at night in the bedroom.

The operational sound of the humidifier is silent even on the highest setting it was impossible to hear it more than a couple of feet away. Even on the highest setting I never heard any air bubbles or gurgling as the tank drained into the base.

The one and a half-gallon tank can last anywhere from overnight to 40 hours depending on the setting. I found on the high setting the tank would be empty after one night. Running on the medium setting tank would last a little longer but about the same as the high setting, just overnight. The low setting was the most impressive for a continuous run as it did run for 40 hours before needing to be refilled.

When the tank runs empty, the indicator light flashes red and the humidifier automatically shuts itself off. Once the tank is refilled it automatically resumes operation at the same level as before.

The mist output from the humidifier is just vapor. The area around the humidifier was still dry after 40 hours of continuous use. Other humidifiers I’ve used in the past would leave the area around it damp.

After running the humidifier every night for about a month I’ve had no issue with any hard water scale build up within the humidifier. I used reverse osmosis filtered water in the tank without any other additives my water source is a well so it may be different in your municipality.

The aromatherapy oil tray is located on the back of the humidifier. You just push on the tray to open it and access the aroma pad. I was super excited to try out the aromatherapy feature but I found that the scent dissipated very quickly after adding it to the tray. I had started off conservatively only using a few drops of essential oil but ended up having to use 30 to 40 drops in order to smell anything at all. Originally I thought since the aroma pad was brand new it needed to be saturated in order for it to diffuse properly, however, once the pad was saturated from daily use the scent was still barely noticeable when the humidifier was first turned on and disappeared within a couple of minutes.

What I like

  • Super easy operation
  • Completely silent while running
  • Ultra-fine mist output
  • No ambient light

What I’d change

  • Improve the aromatherapy oil diffuser

Final thoughts

The large reservoir, silent operation, and no ambient running lights won me over on this humidifier. While the aromatherapy feature was very underwhelming, it is important to remember that it is a humidifier first and a diffuser second. It has earned a permanent spot in my bedroom.
