ARTICLE – So I’ve been cleaning up under my parent’s house recently and found my 1975 VR headset 😛 Yes, the View-Master Stereoscopic Viewer.
Remember these? 3 reels of 7 stereoscopic images and a little booklet that told you the story. Luckily none of the reels have been damaged with water or age. I pulled the View-Master apart, gave everything a clean and it’s just like being there 🙂 I had hours of fun with this as a kid, but tell that to kids today…

As a child, in the fifties, I frequently enjoyed the spectacular 3D photos seen in the Viewmaster. Strangely, I stumbled upon an old one decades later ( I cannot remember how and where I acquired it but when I looked at the photos in the one reel it held I was stunned to see a picture of a yellow 1952 Chevrolet coupe identical to one my dad had once owned. While I do not consider myself superstitious, I could not help wondering if this was a salutation from my deceased father. Ken L
For a few years, in the 70s, ViewMaster sold the “Talking Viewmaster.” Each reel had a little record attached to the back. the record was made of translucent plastic so the light would pass thru to the film and eye piece, and the viewer had a needle, amp and little speaker. Somehow, when you ticked to the next slide, the mechanism moved the needle to the next cut so the sound was in sync. https://obsoletemedia.org/talking-view-master/
Yes! My favourite was the Muppets- I actually still have an old wall viewer for the View Master reels- you put them in the slot and it projects it on to the wall- and some old reels.
I am still in the hobby at age 56…i owe the hugo de wijs Viewmaster Viewer ( only 113 viewer are known to be in existence)..i have traveled over 100 countries via Viewmaster.
