crowdfund

I have a new set of five interesting Kickstarter and Indiegogo crowdfunding campaigns for you to read about this week. Click through to check out this week’s list of projects that have caught my eye.

The Steel & Flint Pen, Worlds Finest Soft-Close Magnetic Pen

What is it?
The Steel & Flint Pen is a soft-closing magnetic pen that has been designed and machined in the UK.

Why do I like it?
I like this pen because magnets! Watch the video above and you’ll want one too. I also like that changing refills requires no tools and that the pen uses “Parker Style” G2 ink cartridge refills.

With 24 days left in their campaign, The Steel & Flint Pen campaign is close to reaching their funding goal of $14,803. You can pre-order a Steel & Flint Pen starting at $69. After the Steel & Flint Pen campaign ends, rewards are estimated to start shipping in June 2017. Visit their Kickstarter page for all the details.

SOLOSOCKS

What is it?
If your sock drawer is anything like my sock drawer, you have a bunch of individual socks that are missing their mates. Missing socks is one of life’s great mysteries.

Why do I like it?
This is one of those kooky “I can’t believe I didn’t think of this first” ideas. Oh wait, I did think of it… If it was up to me, I’d just buy boring black or white socks that all match and throw them all in the sock drawer without folding them into pairs. Unfortunately for me, my genius idea always gets vetoed by Jeanne. I guess she just likes to fold socks. Go figure!

Where can I find more info?
With only 9 to go, SOLOSOCKS has already achieved its goal of $14,241. Pledges start at $22 for a pack of 7 kids Solo socks and $29 for a pack of 5 adult SOLO socks with shipping estimated for December 2016 – March 2017. Visit the SOLOSOCKS Kickstarter page for all the details.

Airblock: The Modular and Programmable Starter Drone

What is it?
The Airblock is a magnetic modular six-axis drone that transforms into various flying configurations, including a hexacopter and a hovercraft, both of which is controlled by an app on your phone.

Why do I like it?
It’s like LEGO for drones and you can change the drone styles without needing tools. Included in each set is a control core, a hovercraft base, six blade modules, six spare blades, ten blade shields, one wall charger, one lithium-ion rechargeable battery and one USB cable.

Where can I find more info?
With 22 days left in their campaign, The Airblock campaign has greatly surpassed their funding goal of $100,000. You can pre-order an Airblock drone starting at $99. After the Airblock campaign ends, rewards are estimated to start shipping in February 2017. Visit their Kickstarter page for all the details.

MATRIX PowerWatch

What is it?
The MATRIX PowerWatch is an activity tracker that you never have to remember to charge  because it uses your body heat to keep it charged.

Why do I like it?
No recharging necessary is the main reason why this fitness tracking watch is interesting. Add in the fact that it also measures calories burned, activity level, and sleep and I want one!

Where can I find more info?
With a month left in their campaign, The MATRIX PowerWatch campaign has met their funding goal of $100,000. You can pre-order a MATRIX PowerWatch starting at $129. After the MATRIX PowerWatch campaign ends, rewards are estimated to start shipping in July 2017. Visit their Indiegogo page for all the details.

The Hinge Hanger

What is it?
The Hinge Hanger creates storage in a completely unused area  that you already have all over your home. The space behind the door.

Why do I like it?
My house is small, so if there’s an easy way to add more storage without knocking down walls and building an addition, I’m interested. The Hinge Hanger can do that just by replacing a hinge pin in your door. I also like that it’s made of aluminum instead of cheap plastic.

Where can I find more info?
With 22 days left in their campaign, The Hinge Hanger campaign has a lot of work to do before they will meet their funding goal of $7,500. You can pre-order a Hinge Hanger starting at $20. After the Hinge Hanger campaign ends, rewards are estimated to start shipping in February 2017. Visit their Kickstarter page for all the details.

  1. Gadgeteer Comment Policy - Please read before commenting
  2. the Matrix watch has potential… but i’ve only had bad experiences with Indiegogo projects.
Apple should just buy them to own the tech before Samsung does :p

  3. Is is just me, or does the door hanger inventor look like Dean Stockwell, the actor from Quantum Leap? Wonder what Ziggy thinks of this idea and if it will catch on in the future.
