The Eve Energy is a module that plugs into a standard 3-prong wall socket and has an outlet in the module where you plug an electronic device or appliance. Lamps, TVs, computers, and other electric devices can be monitored and controlled using a small adapter and your iPhone.  A free iOS app installed on your iPhone or iPad will then allow you to control the power to the plugged in device either by using your voice with Siri, or with a simple tap. This HomeKit-enabled switch does not require a hub or gateway. It uses Bluetooth Smart technology to communicate with the app to show the energy usage of the plugged in device or to control it. Multiple adapters can be controlled by creating “rooms” and “scenes” that will enable you to create power macros that can turn on or off multiple devices. For example, you could create a scene that you would use when you’re ready to go to bed each night. This scene would turn off the lamps in the room, turn off the stereo and turn off the TV, all by tapping a button or by telling Siri that you want to go to bed. Eve Energy is available now from and for $49.95.

  2. Am I correct in thinking that since this is using Bluetooth you can only control these when within BT range, not when you are out of the house?

Ah, found the answer on the Elgato site (not on Amazon): “Controlling HomeKit-enabled accessories away from home requires an Apple TV (3rd generation or later) with Apple TV software 7.0 or later and an iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch with iOS 8.1 or later.”
