I constantly see articles about the health benefits of using a standing desk, but most home or work offices don’t have stand-up desks. Replacing or modifying your current desk is expensive – and what do you do if you find that a standing desk just isn’t for you? If you back this Kickstarter project for the chairigami Cardboard Standing Desk, you can have a strong, sturdy, completely recyclable standing desk for only $85.00 ($70.00, if you grab one of the last early-bird pledges). Chairigami currently makes cardboard furniture, but it’s all custom-made by hand as it’s ordered, so it’s much more expensive than this factory-produced model will be. The desk is made of corrugated cardboard. It ships flat and assembles in just minutes. It weighs only 15 pounds, but it can support 300 pounds and should serve you for 2-3 years. It is designed for people 5’2″ to 6’2″. If you decide it’s not for you or it’s starting to show its wear, you can recycle the chairigami Standing Desk. The chairigami Cardboard Standing Desk is about 40% funded now; the funding period continues through Friday, April 11, 2014 at 10:00PM EDT. Shipping is expected in July and August of this year, should the funding goal be met.

This is a neat idea. I still want to try a standing desk, but I want one that is easily convertible from sitting to standing. I also don’t want to drill or modify my existing desk. I don’t want much do I?
Maybe something like this would let you give it a try for not a ton of money, so you’ll know it’s something you would like and use before you try anything more permanent. Then there is the VARIDESK that sits on your current desk and converts to a standing and back to a sitting desk without permanent modifications to your desk. http://the-gadgeteer.com/2013/11/15/easily-convert-your-conventional-desk-to-a-standing-desk-without-permanent-modifications/
That’s a little too bulky. The one I really want to try is this one: http://www.ergodesktop.com/
That one is nice. Looks like it would add almost no height to the sitting desk mode.
We’re using the Varidesk for one of our employees. It is working out great!
I find it interesting that none of the variable desk videos show the requisite power and video cables the monitors need. Wonder if I can talk the office into buying me a Varidesk…
Thanks for sharing the desk options again. I love this cardboard desk – it has possibilities beyond just a standing desk. Seriously thinking about getting one.
You can always get something like this for all the cables – at least they’d all be plugged into one spot:
