Last Winter Dave and his son (AKA The Gadgeteer Kid) reviewed the Sphero ball, which they found fun to play with, but were not convinced that it was worth the $130 price tag. A new version of this remote controlled toy has just been announced – the Sphero 2.0. What’s different? It’s now 2x faster and can travel at 7 ft per second, 3x brighter and can glow in more colors than your eyes can detect and it comes with 2 ramps for extreme rolling (not sure what else to call it). There are also nubby covers (sold separately for $14.99 each) for off road rolling adventures. The Sphero works with over 25 apps for  iOS and Android, making it more than just a ball that you can roll around on the floor – it’s almost like a rolling game system. The Sphero 2.0’s price hasn’t changed though. It’s still $129.99. You can pre-order one now through the Sphero online store with expected delivery before 8/30. If you pre-order through Brookstone.com, you’ll also receive some bonus goodies: 2 glow in the dark ramps, 1 nubby cover and a travel bag. The Sphero looks like fun, but I’m not sure how long the fun would last before me or my cat Max would get bored with it.
