Cross Edge Rollerball Pen

Are you in need of a new annoying office habit?  Really, who’s not?  Cross recently released a new line of rollerball pens called Edge with a slide and snap opening mechanism.  Instead of twisting the pen or removing the cap, the cap slides outward from the barrel to expose the pen tip.  To close, it slides back with a satisfying “click.”  I have this pen and as my desk mates can probably attest, sliding the pen open and shut is addictive.  The finish of the barrel is a metallic fusion resin and the exposed slide body and all appointments are polished chrome.

The pen ships with black ink, but blue, purple, and red gel ink refills are available.  If rollerball isn’t your thing, the pen will convert to ballpoint by swapping in a (Cross jumbo) ballpoint refill.  Cross stands behind this line with a lifetime mechanical guarantee, so no worries on over-sliding.

The full Edge line in sonic titanium, jet black, octane green, or nitro blue is available directly through Cross for $40.

  3. Cross generally makes a pretty decent pen. I’ve had problems with some of their rollerball types burning through ink at ridiculous rates, but when compared to pens like Mont Blanc they’re quite the bargain.

Still, at the end of the day for the vast majority of people a $.50 stick pen will handle the same tasks.

Like watches where a $10 Casio will probably be more accurate than a $5,000 Rolex some people consider pens more than something functional.
