It’s easy to find timers to turn on lamps to give your home a lived-in look while you’re out of town. If you’re like me, lamps are only part of making my house look like I’m home. My TV is on most nights, and normal lamps just can’t mimic the bright, flickering look of a TV playing. SmartHome has the FakeTV Burglar Deterrent lamp that uses LEDs of various colors and an internal computer to produce a constantly changing, bright lightshow that appears someone is home watching TV. The FakeTV has a light sensor that automatically turns on the lightshow in a dark room. The FakeTV produces the amount of light typical of a 27″ television. It’s currently $29.84 at SmartHome.

Or you could turn on your tv…
I saw this on demo at a tech show a year or so ago. It looked very fake and repetative to me. I certinly wouln’t pay $30 for it.
Agreed. $19.99…maybe, but $30 is a little too steep for a “gadget”. It is interesting though.
I bought this two years ago for about EURO 25.
It works great, really looks from outside the house as if somebody is watching TV inside.
It hardly uses any electricity (cheaper then letting your TV on) and saver (a overheated TV could set your house on fire).
We leave this thing on for weeks when we’re away. It switches on and off (after 4 or 6 hours) automatically.
