The Fascinations company offers “wonders created by physicists.” Their City Lights globe is a little different from most globes. There’s a light source inside that illuminates the major cities on earth. The globe automatically rotates on its axis, as well. The globe comes with a 11oV power supply. The City Lights Globe is available in 6″ or 10″ diameters from various retailers. The Discovery Channel Store has the 10″ globe for $89.95.

This is an attractive globe, but I’m sorry to say that the light in mine died after a few months, and you can’t replace it. The globe also has far less detail than a standard Replogle globe of the same circumference. I junked my City Lights globe when the light died, and I consider $90 a high price for a globe with such a limited lifespan. NOT recommended…
It does look lovely. But from hihat’s comments, it doesn’t make sense that they don’t let consumers replace the burnt out bulbs/LEDs.
I have a thing for globes, and I thought this was really nice. Too bad there’s no way to change a burned out bulb. That just doesn’t make sense to me.
Maybe they should put solar panel it would be green too 🙂
