The SendStation PocketDock is a handy little Line Out adapter that I’ve been using for the last couple of years to play music from my iPhone through my car’s stereo. Now it’s been updated to be even smaller and easier to use. The new tiny PocketDock still has a 3.5 mm (1/8″) stereo line out jack, but now it has a mini USB connector instead of a Firewire connector. Use the line out to connect to a stereo and the USB to charge the device at the same time. The advantage to using this adapter over just running a line from the headphone jack of your phone, is that sound quality will be much better and sound levels can be controlled by your car or stereo instead of the iPhone. It’s available now for $29.95.

I ordered this as soon as I read the article. I’ve been looking for a way to charge and get line-out in my vehicle.
While this does seem to work it is a bummer that I get the “This accessory is not made to work with iPhone” message.
If I tell it not to go into airplane mode it does seem to charge. Still a bummer tho. I might have waited a bit longer if I’d known…
oh, I’m running an iPhone 3G firmware 3.0.1
Same here – and for a device that’s advertised as compatible with “iPhone (all generations)” and priced at the premium end, it’s a bit rich when the phone reports otherwise. Why is it so hard to create a glorified plug adapter?
