The onscreen keyboards we use on our smartphones and tablets work just fine most of the time, but when you need to enter a lot of text, they become more annoying than useful. To remedy that situation, most people opt for a cover that has a built in keyboard. That works ok, but drastically increases the bulk and weight of our mobile gadgets. If you’re near a regular Mac or Windows computer, you can use something like the Keyshair adapter (one of my fave gadgets). But for those times when you want to carry the bare minimum and are not near other computers, the WayTools TextBlade looks like a worthy alternative. It’s a specially designed Bluetooth keyboard that will work with both iOS and Android devices. The TextBlade features a unique compact snap together magnetic design that fits a full QWERTY keyboard layout with 19mm finger spacing, the same as desktop keyboards, into a tiny package. This is a touch typist’s keyboard with large keys that have a 2mm travel. The TextBlade uses low power Bluetooth 4.0 so that it can run up to a month from a charge. When you do need to recharge, it happens in minutes by plugging it into a USB port without needing a cable. You can order a WayTools TextBlade for $99 with shipping slated for March. Visit WayTools for more info.

That is so cool. I want one!!!
Waytools website link says “please view with Chrome, Firefox or Safari.” That’s an odd marketing strategy.
It also auto-plays unstoppable music (an instant ‘kill tab’ for me) on browsers it works in.
It looks like it could be interesting, but they are hitting my ‘bad netizin’ buttons hard…
This indeed looks very portable, but I am wondering about the ergonomics of it.
The video showing someone typing on it looks pretty good, but it’s hard to say without trying it myself.
I ordered one, delivery backlogged till May. I’ll let you know how it works out.
Apparently, they have upgrade these things, but that has pushed off delivery dates. Better beats fast!

As a member of the WayTools test release group (TREG), I’ve now been using a TextBlade for a week on my Apple iMac and 12.9 inch iPad Pro. Excellent keyboard! Well thought out; lateral finger spacing is normal and finger reach one row up or down from the home row is delightfully compact without being cramped. The key action is well controlled, stable and light. No springs or silicone–novel magnetic action butterflies present a wonderful feel.
Did anyone ever get one of these? I gave up and got my money back after 6 months or more and no action/delivery!
They promised to send me one to review but it never arrived…
