I have to admit I’ve never tried water skiing, and I have my doubts if I could actually even stand up.  The Subwing might actually be more my style though.  The Subwing is made of fiberglass, rubber, and stainless steel, and with it, you can travel on the surface, skim the ocean bottom or just do tricks. Towed behind a boat going at around 2 knots, you can control the Subwing by tilting the wings in different directions.

Available for $700 from Subwing.  There’s also a carbon fiber version with glossy finish for $895 and a carbon fiber model with matte finish for $850.

  2. Sounds cool…at first…then it sounds like a death-wish.

Seriously, allowing yourself to be dragged underwater by a boat that can’t see you or the rocks and stuff it is going over?!

  3. Obviously not for use in murky water. But in clear water if you saw a hazard, let go. You’d stop pretty quickly.

  4. Note that they only recommend 2 knots. That’s about 2 mph or 3 kmh, so you’re not exactly “flying” along. You’d definitely have to pick where you’d use it. A nice sandy bay would be perfect. As you’re about 15 metres behind the boat might also be a good idea to run a divers flag off the boat as well !
