Weird Al would be proud of this wallet

Keeping on The Gadgeteer’s theme of wallets that are non-traditional and “gadgety,” check out the Ögon Designs “Fan Shaped” Aluminum Wallet.  Similar in form factor and function to the Jimi, Flipside and Flipside 2 wallets, it has a few interesting differences.  This French-designed wallet features an aluminum shell (which Ögon claims can shield credit cards from demagnetization) on the outside.  Inside it has a 7-pocket accordion-style card holder made of “tear proof” PVC.  This holder fans out when the wallet is opened and can hold cards, cash, pictures or other small, thin objects that one might stuff in a wallet.  It is available in both a ‘Credit Card Size’ and ‘ID and Paper Size,’ a variety of colors and retails for about $35.00-$40.00 from various online retailers.  And it looks cool.  Let’s polka!

If I wore my wallet in my front pocket or had a purse, this would be nice. I have enough troubles with the thin leather wallet I have in my back pocket. And I have enough s, er, crap in my front pockets that w wallet in my front pockets ain’t gonna work.

What this needs is RF shielding and for CAC/smart cards. hate to be in Tokyo and have someone skim my info by using a prox device. i have to line this with aluminum foil or equivalent to make it worth while from a security aspect.

@fuchikoma-x Does that really happen very often?

Bryan Price – Most of these types of wallets (Ögon, Jimi, Flipside) seem to tout the ability to keep your wallet in your front pocket, but I’ve always wondered about this concept a bit myself. I typically have a mobile phone in one front pocket and car keys in the other, leaving not much room for a wallet.

fuchikoma-x – So you would still line it with aluminum foil, even though the outside shell itself is aluminum?

I don’t understand what Weird Al has to do with this device.

I received the “ID and Paper Size” wallet today. I’ve had things slide out out of my leather wallet enough times that this seemed like the ideal solution. My immediate disappointment is its capacity. All it will hold is 7-8 cards max. I carry a drivers license, debit card, two credit cards, three gas cards and three retail charge cards, a Costco card, a medical insurance card and a dental insurance card. There’s no way all of these will fit. Make it twice as thick and it might approach being practical.

By my count, that’s 13 cards, correct? Wow! That would be a lot for any wallet!
