I am so frustrated! Perhaps out of a sense of nostalgia, I was completely prepared to love my new iPAQ 5455. I wanted to start using all of the accessories that I already had from previous versions, and I was even ready to move my Tungsten to “Second Banana” status. Unfortunately though, it seems like I get a nasty surprise almost every day with my 5455 – I have the beginnings of a list going:
I have a dead pixel in the middle of my screen. It's not huge , but it is annoying! A purple dot in the middle of an otherwise beautiful screen. :0P
WiFi battery life stinks. If I go ahead and pay the extra $100 or so to get another battery, will it stick out so that I can't use any of the available sleeves or cases?
Reading eBooks is no fun – the D-pad is so stiff and unresponsive that it doesn't even register my clicks. I have been using the 5455 exclusively since I got it – and I miss the responsive pad on my TT!
I have had to do 2 hard resets because the WiFi just quit working on me – for no reason! The signal would show as almost 100%, yet the green light wouldn't flash and there was no connection.
Of course – never mind counting how many times I have seen the error stating that “The WLAN failed to turn ON due to insufficient driver memory available. You must perform a normal reset before you can turn ON the WLAN” BLAH!!
As for fingerprint recognition…it is iffy at best. When I have it set to a simple 4 digit pin, I have found that my fingerprint is recognized more often than when I have it set on the longer better encypted setting. I have no idea why. When and if I can get it to recognize my fingerprint swipe, there are times when it is truncated, and you can see that only about 1/2 of my finger – the middle section – is even recognized. I have no idea what is going on, but I am geting frustrated!
There are more things that Julie and I will mention in the review, but hopefully you all get the genereal idea that between us – we are not happy campers!
We each spent $700+ of our own money on these things, and due to the crappy return policy at Mobile Planet – We can't change our minds and return them!
So let this be a lesson to all of you Gadgeteer readers: If you are not 100% sure that you are going to love a PDA before you buy it, make sure you get it from a source that will allow you to return it…
Right now, I guess the best I can hope for is that there will be a patch released soon that will take care of at least some of the issues that are plaguing my PDA.
At least I don't have DUST
