REVIEW – There’s nothing quite like the feel of a leather case around an iPhone. It feels warmer, smooth and can tell a story of what the phone’s been through. They can get a bit beat up through use though. Bellroy’s Phone Case offers a hybrid design with protective polymers in specific places. Can it strike the right balance? Let’s take a look.

Design and features
Whether you choose the leather version or an ‘alternative leather’ version called INNOVERA, you get a case that looks and feels expensive and the debossed Bellroy logo at the lower back only accentuates this. Inside is a microfiber lining with a bold debossed MagSafe indicator, and a fine line deboss depicting the Bellroy bird logo.
The leather version wraps around both sides and up the curves of the camera plateau, while the entire screen perimeter, case top and bottom are shock absorbing polymer adding to the level of protection. There’s a really subtle curve to the leather/polymer transition that shows the attention to detail that Bellroy is known for.
The INNOVERA version (judging by the website images like this one and its description) wraps all sides and camera plateau.
All the core buttons are machined aluminum while the Camera Control button is tempered glass for improved performance.
The Phone Case is available for the iPhone 17 series and the iPhone Air which has some obvious change to deal with the differences in cameras.
Here’s the color options for the 17 Pro in leather; Black, Nightsky, Rust and Khaki…

and in the INNOVERA version we have; Black, Lilac Haze, Butterscotch and Tahini.

Performance
You won’t have any issues installing the case on your phone as it pops on easily with enough grab over the screen edges that it stays put well. I received the leather version in Nightsky, a deep blue that really makes the orange camera plateau pop.
The leather feels great to the touch and strikes a perfect balance of texture, grip and in-pocket slide that makes every day use a joy. I appreciate the polymer top, bottom and screen perimeter as those are the areas that see the most wear. I usually place my phone screen side down so the the leather is really only seeing wear from my hands or pockets. I think this will lend itself well for the case continuing to look new for a longer period of time.

The Camera Control button is tempered glass that doesn’t just protect the phone’s button, but also makes finding that button by feel very easy due to the change in material feel going from leather to glass. Control with the button is perfect.
Final thoughts
If you’re looking for a leather case with the protection of a polymer case with great details and impeccable control of the camera, the Phone Case from Bellroy is an easy one for me to recommend. It feels great, protects the phone and looks classy in all the right ways.
