REVIEW—I remember being enraptured by the stars unencumbered by clouds while seated in a comfy reclining chair at the planetarium during summer school field trips in the ’70s. I still love the experience and have long wondered how to bottle it and bring it home. Pococo makes my dream possible with its Galaxy Star Projector.

Design and features
I was super excited to receive the Pococo Galaxy Star Projector. They were generous and sent the “Planets” and “Moon and Stars” disk sets.
The projector is smaller than I expected. It’s about five inches in diameter with a sturdy base.
Three buttons on the base control the power and rotation and toggle the timer for 15, 30, or 60 minutes.
The projector should point straight onto a flat surface for optimal focus but will also tilt up to 60°.
A short USB cord provides power, but you’ll need a power supply.
The focus ring is on the top. A few turns sharpened the image splendidly.
There’s a drawer on the side to load the disks. They have flat tangents around the perimeter to ensure they align correctly. Handle them carefully because any scratches or grubby fingerprints would affect the image.
They’re about the size of a quarter.
If you aren’t subject to vection, a small motor engages the gear and slowly rotates the images. It’s slow and has a slight whirr while it runs, but I didn’t find it bothersome, distracting, or disorienting. I like this feature very much when the projector image is tilted and blurred. As the image rotates, it gradually falls into and out of focus. I found it soothing.
Pococo includes two disks.
Seven more sets are available (Nebula, Galaxy, Fixed Stars and Nebulas, Constellation 1 and 2, Planets, Aurora and Sea, and Moon and Stars). They are very cool. My wife and I redecorated our room with a beach theme in January, so I plan to get the “Aurora and Sea” set soon.
A feature I didn’t expect was the internal battery, allowing the projector to operate untethered.
Performance
The high-resolution image the projector produces is clear and bright on white, flat ceilings, reminding me of those fantastic summer days staring up at the heavens or reclining in planetarium chairs. It was nothing short of enchanting. My wife and I both loved it, especially when coupled with the sounds of crickets or ethereal music! Lovely!
It’s challenging to capture the immersive experience, but here are a few time-exposure photos from our bedroom ceiling.
That “planet” in the corners is the top of my bald noggin. Thankfully, you won’t see it projected on your home’s ceiling.
Final thoughts
There’s something magical about looking at the night sky. With easy-to-use functionality, stunning images, ample image disks, and an internal battery, I immediately loved the Pococo Galaxy Star Projector. It’s extraordinary! Thank you, Pococo!
What I like about the Pococo Galaxy Star Projector
- Real star images
- Vivid and bright with outstanding resolution
- Quiet, simple operation
- The internal battery is excellent!
- See the stars without the bugs, cold, or clouds! Yay!
What needs to be improved?
- It’s a tall order, but a keystone correction might be a plus
- A longer power cord would be helpful for stationary installations
- I would love to see a Southern Hemisphere disk 🙂
