REVIEW – If your workflow includes a tablet, phone, and desktop PC or laptop, you know that having a way to organize all of your devices is important. Today, I want to show you the MOFT Smart Desk Mat, which is a new spin on an old school product and a possible solution for multi-device and accessory organization.
What is it?
The MOFT Smart Desk Mat is a modular system that builds on a smart desk mat for a tablet and is expandable for phones, books, and more.

Design and features
The system’s main star is the Smart Desk Mat. This vegan leather mat has a large footprint at 19.8 x 11.8 x 0.3 in (50.4 x 30 x 0.7 cm) and is equally weighty at 55.6 oz (1577 g). The weight comes from the metal sheets inside, which give it its magnetic bulletin board powers.
The Smart Desk Mat has two programmable NFC tags built into the bottom right corner, which you can use to enhance your workflow.
The included padded wrist/lap rest is magnetically attached to the bottom of the Smart Desk Mat.
Although the MOFT Smart Desk Mat is heavier than other lap desks I’ve used, it’s not uncomfortable due to the padded lap rest.
The Smart Desk Mat opens like a book to reveal its origami-style stand-offs that can be used to create the perfect stand for your desk.
The angle can be adjusted from 25 up to 60 degrees and even higher when you flip the stand over like an A-Frame.
The folding support keeps the angle securely in place no matter which angle you use.
You can use the MOFT Smart Desk Mat all by itself as you see above with my iPad resting in the ledge at the bottom.
But where this system shines is when you use the Digital and Paper Sets.
This add-on sets (which come with the full set) give you a holder for your phone that even charges it, along with magnetic cable organizers and a folding tablet holder.
I love the phone holder that doubles as a MagSafe wireless charger.
MOFT even sells a holder for your Apple Watch (not shown here). It won’t charge your watch though.
The Paper Set lets you go old school and attach a book or magazine to the Smart Desk Mat.
Two memo holders are also included so you can tack up your to do list.
The book holders allow for easy page turns.
What I like about the MOFT Smart Desk Mat
- Modular design lets you attach a variety of devices
- Customizable angle
- Well made
- Can be used on your lap
What needs to be improved?
- Full set is pricey
Final thoughts
Like other MOFT products I’ve reviewed (check out my tripod stand review and SnapFlow review), the Smart Desk Mat is a product that not only looks good, but is also designed to be functional. It is like the Swiss Army knife of desk organizers. I like it.
