REVIEW – When purchasing an office/gaming chair, comfort is of utmost importance. A comfortable desk chair can help make a difference in how you feel physically and increase productivity. Over the years, I’ve tried out a few gaming chairs, but they’ve only been okay. They didn’t quite hit the mark when it came to comfort and support. So, when I got the chance to review a premium chair from Boulies, I couldn’t pass it up. Let’s look closer at the Boulies Master Max desk/gaming chair.

Design and features
The Boulies Master Max is definitely designed with comfort in mind. The seat cushion and backrest are large and have tailored rounded edges. The chair is well-constructed and has a premium look. Unlike other gaming chairs that look like they belong in a race car, the Boulies Master Max has a sleek, minimalist design that will compliment any home or office decor.
The Boulies Master Max is available in two upholstery types: Ultra Flex PU Leather and Water Repellent Fabric. You can choose from two colors, Black or Blue. I decided to go with the Blue Ultra Flex PU Leather. I’ve had fabric chairs in the past and didn’t like the way they held up. The pictures don’t do it justice, but the blue PU leather is very sharp. I also like the use of black accents and white stitching, making it pop. As far as feel, the Ultra Flex PU Leather has a premium feel that is buttery soft.
The chair also comes with a small detachable head pillow. The pillow cover is a suede-like material with a memory foam filling. It attaches to the backrest using an elastic band.
The Boulies Master Max gaming chair does have lumbar support. However, unlike other chairs, it’s not in the form of a pillow. Instead, it’s integrated into the backrest. Knobs on either side of the backrest allow you to customize the support. The knob on the left side adjusts the lumbar up or down. While the knob on the right will enable you to customize the amount of lumbar support. This is a great feature, especially if you suffer from back issues. And it eliminates having an extra pillow lying around.
The armrests are aluminum-constructed 4D. The internal structure is crafted from high-grade aluminum alloy, making the armrests firmer, smoother, and more durable.
Aluminum levers on the outside of the armrests adjust the height.
There are two buttons on the inside of the armrest. When held in, the aluminum button on the front lets you move the armrest forwards and backward and angle them in or out. The plastic square button near the center slides the rest sideways.
Below the right armrest is the recline lever. Pulling the lever allows you to recline the chair up to 165 degrees.
Underneath the Boulies Master Max gaming chair is the multi-functional tilt mechanism. It has a rocking function that offers a gentle 15-degree rocking motion.
There are two paddle-like levers on either side of the tilt mechanism. The left paddle locks the chair into a 15-degree tilt.
The right paddle allows you to raise and lower the seat. The seat rides on a class-4 gas lift that provides stable and safe operation.
The tilt tension knob adjusts the rocking tension of the chair. Turn the knob clockwise to loosen and counterclockwise to tighten.
The chair’s aluminum wheelbase rides on five extra large PU casters. The casters are durable but soft enough to use on wooden floors without worrying about scratches.
Assembly
Obviously, the Boulies Master Max chair requires some assembly. I found it was relatively easy using the included Allen wrenches and hardware. The installation manual is comprehensive and includes step-by-step instructions and full-color pictures. Total assembly time for me was approximately 30-35 minutes. Of course, that included stopping and taking pictures and dealing with my 5-month-old Frenchie Cooper, who desperately wanted to help.
Have a seat
I’ve used the Boulies Master Max chair for about a month now for both gaming and working. In fact, I wrote and edited this entire review using it. I can honestly say it’s the most comfortable chair of its kind I have ever used. I’m not very big at 5′ 91/2″ and approximately 185 lbs. Hence, the chair’s generous seat cushion and backrest offered plenty of room for movement. Because of the chair’s rounded edges, there aren’t any uncomfortable pressure points. The Ultraflex PU leather is very comfortable, although it can sometimes get a little warm. The integrated lumbar support works great, but I usually don’t need it. Maybe my favorite thing about the chair is the 4D armrests. The ability to customize the position of the armrests saved my elbows, especially while using my laptop.
Overall, the Boulies Master Max is a fantastic chair. It’s exceptionally comfortable whether I’m gaming for hours or working on my laptop. I may even have snuck in a couple of catnaps along the way. The build quality is premium from the Ultraflex PU Leather and aluminum constructed armrests all the way down to the durable yet wooden floor-friendly XL PU casters. The Boulies Master Max is definitely built to last.
What I like
- Well constructed
- 4D armrests
- Comfortable
- Generous-sized seat and back cushions
- Multiple adjustable features
What I’d change
- Make the head pillow a little larger.
Final thoughts
Overall, the Boulies Master Max gaming chair is an excellent investment in comfort and productivity. As office/gaming chairs go, it really hits the mark. It’s a premium-quality chair that’s exceptionally comfortable and has multiple adjustable features. If you spend a lot of time in front of a desk or gaming, you owe it to yourself to check it out.
