I reviewed the Belkin WeMo Smart Home Automation Switch about a year ago, and at the time, you really needed an iOS device to control the products.  There was an Android app, but it was in beta, but Belkin announced late last month that the Android app is ready.  Just like with the iOS app that I use, the Android app will be able to control all WeMo devices, including the WeMo Insight Switch (or the old, now discontinued Smart Home Automation Switch that I still use), the WeMo Light Switch, and even the Crock-Pot Slow Cooker with WeMo.  You’ll be able to control your lights and other appliances from anywhere over WiFi and 3G/4G networks.  “The app also integrates with IFTTT, an online service that creates triggers using different Internet-based services such as email, weather and social media. For example, you can use IFTTT to create a rule that will send a text to your phone whenever a WeMo Switch + Motion senses motion or trigger a WeMo Light Switch to turn on your lights when the sun sets.”  This Belkin WeMo app requires Android 4.0 or higher and is free on the Google Play store.

  2. Thank you for the update! I’m also using the WATTIO app (also available for iOS and Android) and I can control appliances from anywhere!
