Okay, this looks like a tragedy waiting to happen, but Hammacher Schlemmer is offering a device that is designed to let you cut your own hair.  The Single Handed Barber uses a “rotary cutting system and razor-sharp stainless steel blades” to cut your close-cropped hair as you move the device over your head in a circular motion.  You can set the blades to cut hair to 1/8″, 1/4″, 3/8″, or 1/2″ lengths.  The rechargeable battery delivers four 5-minute haircuts on a charge, or you can use the included AC adapter to power the trimmer.  The kit also includes a comb, scissors, storage pouch, and a barber’s cape.  It’s $59.95 at Hammacher Schlemmer.

  2. Half of me is giggling at this with flashbacks from “Waynes World” the other half of me is reaching for his credit card.

  3. Janet, you can’t possibly write about product like this without a real demonstration. Are you sure there is not a single volunteer in the Janet’s household to show off your handy work 🙂

  4. @Navus I believe I would have to wait until my haircut model was asleep before I could give the Single Handed Barber a try on them! ;o) I could decide who was getting the haircut by who ticked me off just before bedtime, huh? ;o)

  5. I had one of these a couple of years ago… It not so much cut my hair, rather it simply served to spray hair everywhere after 40 minutes of much swearing. The end result was my looking like I’d been thrown through a barber shop window.
