Bem Wireless, known primarily for their wireless speakers, is branching out into mobile projectors. Their new Kickstand folding projector is seeking $100,000 funding through Kickstarter. With only 17 days left in the project, they have yet to collect 10% of that amount in pledges which is kind of a bummer, because this projector looks like a nice one. Expensive, but nice. It features an interesting folding design with a built in handle and kickstand, which gives it its name. It has WXGA 1280 X 800 widescreen resolution (720p) that will give you a 96 inch wide image when the projector is set 10 feet away from the wall/screen. Hookups include an HDMI port, USB port, and an Auxiliary Audio Out for multiple connecting options. Put your video on a USB stick or hard drive and you won’t need to bring a computer with you. A $750 minimum pledge is all you need to pre-order one, with an estimated delivery next month.

  2. There’s one problem with the whole “Don’t need a computer” idea. Sure, you may not need the computer to show the presentation, but odds are that you’ll need the computer anyways for other things. I could see the exception being if you were carrying this down the hall instead of on the plane, but then the portability isn’t as big of an issue. And these days, the resolution they’re talking about is a problem, either if you’re projecting a computer’s desktop or if you’re showing a presentation (likely formatted on a system with 1920×1080 resolution) without a computer.

  3. Just FYI, it’s a mere 400 lumen projector.

You can buy 400 lumen, DLP projectors the size of a paperback book for $400. Add a tiny tripod and you’re good to go for business presentations.

For $800, you can buy 1080p, 3000 lumen, DLP projectors.
