We reviewed UPEK’s Eikon desktop biometric fingerprint reader in the past, but now they have a more portable version called the Eikon To Go. It is compatible with Mac and Windows computers. How many of you out there use biometrics to secure your computers?

I think biometrics are a bit overrated. I have a Lenovo X300 and Sony SZ laptops which have biometrics built-in. Never used them. I actually disable the functionality. For me, typing out the password is just faster in my opinion. Plus biometrics isn’t read 100% correct each time. I have friends that have to swipe 3 or 4 times and still end up typing the passwords in.
Jackie, I would have to disagree. The practicality of fingerprint readers depends on what your passwords are like. If your passwords are short and simple (such as birthday), then yes, I would agree with you. But my passwords are alphanumeric, and some have both upper and lower case letters. The fingerprint reader on my D620 has saved me a lot of troubles, plus, you won’t ever forget the password. If you do, all you would have to do would be to swipe your finger in the fingerprint software (UPEK PS QL) and it will show the password in plain text.
