Those are manufacturer specifications rather than measurements from our own testing, but they establish where Fenix intends this flashlight to sit: above basic EDC lights without becoming a bulky searchlight.
The more interesting part may be everything surrounding that maximum output. The PD35R combines five normal brightness levels, dual tail switches, direct USB-C charging, a replaceable 18650 battery, and compatibility with CR123A batteries for backup power.
More Than a 1,700-Lumen Spec Sheet
The PD35R uses a Luminus SFT40 LED and provides five normal output levels plus Strobe. Fenix specifies 1,700 lumens on Turbo, 1,000 on High, 350 on Medium, 50 on Low, and 10 lumens on Eco. Maximum rated beam distance ranges from 26 meters on Eco to 353 meters on Turbo.
That range matters more in everyday use than the headline output alone. Turbo is there when maximum reach and brightness are required, while Medium and Low should be more appropriate for many close-range jobs. Eco has a manufacturer-rated runtime of up to 100 hours, giving the PD35R a much lower-output option when preserving battery life matters more than illuminating something hundreds of feet away.
Fenix’s 2-hour, 15-minute Turbo runtime needs context. The company explicitly states that the figure includes operation at reduced output after temperature or protection mechanisms cause the flashlight to step down. It does not mean the PD35R maintains 1,700 lumens continuously for more than two hours. Fenix’s runtime figures were obtained under controlled test conditions, so real-world results can also vary.
Dual Tail Switches Put the Controls in One Place
Instead of combining a tail power switch with a separate control on the side of the body, the PD35R puts both switches at the tail. The larger main switch controls power and momentary activation, while the smaller auxiliary switch changes output and provides access to Strobe. The flashlight also remembers the previously selected normal output level.
That arrangement could be particularly useful for anyone who prefers a rear-switch grip because the primary controls remain in the same area. Fenix also provides instant momentary illumination through a partial press of the main switch and instant Strobe from the auxiliary switch when the flashlight is off. Those controls help distinguish the PD35R from simpler rechargeable lights that depend on repeatedly cycling a single button through several functions.
USB-C Charging With a Replaceable Battery
Fenix includes an ARB-L18-3400 3,400mAh rechargeable 18650 lithium-ion battery. It charges inside the flashlight through a USB-C port, so there is no need to remove the battery and place it in a separate charger for routine charging. A battery-level indicator appears at startup, and the flashlight also provides a low-voltage warning.
The PD35R can also run on two non-rechargeable CR123A lithium batteries, providing another power option when recharging the supplied battery is not practical. There is a performance tradeoff: Fenix says Turbo cannot be selected with CR123A batteries, while Strobe is limited to 1,000 lumens instead of 1,700. CR123A cells also must not be recharged through the flashlight.
That combination gives the PD35R an advantage over a flashlight built around a permanently installed battery. USB-C handles everyday charging, while the removable battery design provides more flexibility when the original battery eventually ages or when alternative compatible power is needed.

The PD35R uses an A6061-T6 aluminum body with a HAIII hard-anodized finish. Fenix gives it an IP68 rating for dust and water resistance, with Fenix Lighting USA specifying waterproofing to two meters. The manufacturer’s manual also lists impact resistance at one meter. These remain manufacturer durability ratings rather than evidence from our own drop or immersion testing.
Its dimensions help explain the appeal. At 5.35 inches long, with a 1-inch head and 0.91-inch body diameter, it remains small enough for a work bag, vehicle emergency kit, backpack, holster, or sufficiently large pocket.
