REVIEW – If you have been following my reviews, you know that I built a new office/studio in the basement of my home to not only work remotely but also to create content. My old office was one of the bedrooms on the first floor that I will be converting back into a bedroom. Moving to the basement requires relocating all the network switches, NASs, etc. Since I have to build the new rack in the basement from scratch, I decided that it would be a great idea to add some circuit protection, control, and monitoring. Enter the EnGenius ECP106: 6 Outlet Cloud Managed Switchable Smart PDU.

Design and features

The EnGenius ECP106 is a slim 1U rack‑mountable smart PDU built in a sturdy aluminum chassis. It measures approximately 440 x 44 x 70 mm and weighs approximately 2.2 lbs. It is compact and shallow. On the front, it features a 1.3‑inch color LCD for at‑a‑glance status, navigation buttons, LED indicators for power, network, grounding, and surge protection, plus an outlet power button and reset control. There are also six individually switchable outlets, an IEC‑C13 power inlet with a 6‑foot power cord, dual Gigabit Ethernet ports, and a 15A circuit breaker.

Performance

The EnGenius ECP106 is a 6‑outlet, cloud‑managed smart PDU that is rack‑mountable and provides granular power control, monitoring, and basic automation. It combines functions like per‑outlet switching, power metering, surge protection, and integration with the EnGenius Cloud ecosystem for remote management and alerting.
Initial setup is straightforward, and once properly connected, the interface is intuitive, with clear labeling and easy identification of outlets and attached devices. The integrated 1.3″ display is useful for providing an always available, quick visual for things like verification of load and outlet state, even if cloud access is unavailable.
The ECP106 is built in a 1U‑class metal chassis with six NEMA 5‑15R outlets and dual Gigabit Ethernet ports. The aluminum enclosure is solid and includes the rack mounting points. A front‑panel display with status LEDs and a hardware power switch make it easy to verify state and perform local functions directly from the device.
Each outlet is individually switchable, with support for power sequencing and configurable delays to avoid issues when bringing an entire rack online. Integrated metering lets you view total and per‑outlet voltage, wattage, and current, which helps me to optimize energy usage. Built‑in surge and over‑current protection, a 15A breaker, and a fireproof MOV make it suitable as a primary distribution point for critical networking gear and much better than a power auxiliary strip.
The PDU is designed like many other EnGenius devices to be managed in the EnGenius Cloud, which gives you browser and mobile‑app access for outlet control, real-time telemetry, basic reporting, and alerting. The control also allows for remote reboot, including combining per‑outlet control with sequencing. This great versatility allows you to schedule reboots of modems, routers, and switches without locking yourself out when the network drops. In addition, the great functionality of time‑based scheduling allows outlets to power down non‑essential devices during off‑hours, which is especially valuable if reducing energy waste and electricity bills is of interest.
According to EnGenius, the ECP106 is built for continuous duty in the 0–50°C range and is appropriate for typical indoor rack environments rather than harsh industrial use.

Final thoughts
The EnGenius ECP106: 6 Outlet Cloud Managed Switchable Smart PDU is a perfect fit for my network. As I move the rest of my EnGenius equipment, including switches and my router, into the rack, I will be able to manage them all via the cloud and perform reboots, health checks, power management, etc., all from one interface. The only thing better would be to have the 12-outlet PDU. This is another great network device from Engenius.
